1996 Jaguar XJR 4.0 liter 6 cylinder

Summary:

Great looking with performance to match

Faults:

The mass air sensor went out.

The power steering rack developed a serious leak and needed replacement.

General Comments:

The car is holding up extremely well.

All electronics work great.

Drive is smooth and comfortable and I am 6'3" tall.

Looks like a $70,000 car.

Service and parts are pretty expensive, but dealer service is top notch.

1996 Jaguar XJR

Summary:

Inspiring dealer service for good-to-look-at car

Faults:

Leather on all seats and headrests shrank in california sun and had to be replaced (under warranty)

Differential had to be replaced at about 55K miles.

Leather unraveled from steering wheel. Replaced at about 30K miles.

Muffler fell off and had to be reconected at about 55K miles.

General Comments:

Headroom headroom, headroom. I am 6'1", but I could only position my seat is a particular position to keep from scraping my hair (and head) against the header; this is OK at first, but annoying with time.

The front seats are shallow and low to the ground. The rear seat comfort is surprisingly limited because of limited leg room and those low seats.

Performance is adequate, but substantial body roll says that this is not a performance car. Only in '98 did it become a M5/e55/RS6 competitor.

Dealer service is so good, it could warranty a case study.

Always beautiful to look at.

Costs about US$500/mo. for maintenance on average. In the shop too much for too long. The car felt fragile.
