1999 Jaguar XJR 4.0 liter supercharged

Summary:

Expensive but a joy to drive (most of the time)

Faults:

Stalling at speeds due to throttle body switch, tram-lining or "jumping" when hitting bumps. Imagine driving at 70 mph and the car stalls...

I've experienced sunroof problems (actual warping of the metal roof).

Expensive to maintain.

I've read in many places to get the V-8's in a 2000 and up model, due to the Nikasil bore coatings wearing off in the 1998-1999 models.

General Comments:

Beautiful car, a joy to drive, but I don't think a supercharged engine and stiffer suspension is good for this 2-ton sedan, because it can't handle bumps and potholes very well.

These cars are a great deal when used, however, the savings when buying an 8-year old car will cover most of the expenses.

1999 Jaguar XJR 4.2L V8 Supercharged

Summary:

I love my jaguar xjr, fast, great handling and comfortable

Faults:

There is nothing serious happen to the car yet. Since we bought it used, we replaced the brake pads, and parts that need to be replaced to make sure that car is running well. We changed the oil, transmission fluid and other fluids. Make sure you maintain your XJR.

General Comments:

I truly love to drive my 1999 Jaguar XJR. We bought the used red burgundy one and it is extremely beautiful. I detailed it myself and it really makes other luxury drivers to glance, stop and look at the car on the road.

The 370 horse power 4.2L V8 supercharged engine is extremely powerful, smooth and strong. It always makes me smile every time I press on the gas pedal as the car leaves the other cars behind. The Jaguar XJR can go from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

The car was over $84,000 when it was brand new and I did a research online, the loaded version of 1999 XJR price was $102,000 loaded with GPS and other gadgets. We bought the car for $15,000, so we really saves a lot of money by buying it used!

It's a perfect family car, the interior is very spacious, the trunk is also spacious, the leather and wood trim interior is very beautiful. My daughter and wife love the car! Not only the front seats have the heated seats feature, the backseats do have the heated seat feature.

The car comes with the Harmon Kardon stereo system and the sound that comes from this stereo system is amazing! It makes you want to stay in the car and relax. I love driving this car to work every day becaus e it is very comfortable.

The handling of the car is superb! There is a video on YouTube. come Jaguar XJR VS BMW M5, you will love watching this video. Even a corvette 1998 to 2003 Corvettes have to struggle to keep up with my XJR.

If you have the chance to buy one of these less than $20,000 US, buy one, you will love the XJR! You will know how it feels driving in $102,000 car! The quality is just amazing!

Check your engine size, I think that you will find that the 1999 has the 4.0 litre motor. Mine is a 2001 and that is the motor in mine. The 4.2L came later, 2002 or 2003 I think.

You are right, it is 4.0L, but it still produces 370 Horse Power, thank you for the correction. I really appreciate it. I love the XJR, I have been having so much fun driving it.

Without the limiter, how fast can a 1999 XJR go?

1999 Jaguar XJR 4.0

Summary:

I love it except for the troubled engine

Faults:

Engine entered into engine safe mode while in a cruise. Throttle body replaced.

Engine failed to respond while in a cruise. Throttle body replaced again.

Engine on restricted performance, engine replaced.

General Comments:

A genuine sport sedan with quiet stunning speed. If you are climbing steep roads, you can easily leave everybody behind once you step on the gas. But you have to watch out for traffic in front, because you will be approaching them real quick, quicker than you would think. Would suggest to order the Brembo brake package, so that you can decelerate the car faster.

Very responsive steering while on high speed cruise. The low body, reinforced suspension plus the 255/40/18 tires all add up to the stability of the car as it glues onto the road on high speed cruise. I've driven the BMW 540 sport, Mercedes CLK 430 and 500SL, they do not even come close to the Jag for performance in term of speed and roadholding. With the cars that I owned, the Boxster was the only car that gave me more handling confidence, however, the Boxster lacks torque and power. If you look for performance and quiet comfortable cruise, you should consider the Jag.
