2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 I-6 gas

Summary:

Time tested and proved excellent truck

Faults:

Faulty valve on torque convertor (resolved over heating issue).

Replace thermostat (resolved over heating issue).

General Comments:

My father first bought this car in 00' to replace a totalled Bronco. He used it for approximately 4 years for generally construction, but included general use as well.

While satisfied, he gave the car to my sister who lived in Kentucky; replacing it with a more fuel efficient wagon. My sister needed something aside from the Hyundai Elantra she was using at the time. because its lack of "heavy duty" design and inability to travel safely in moderate snow and ice. The Hyundai ended up getting pushed to the side because she enjoyed the Jeep so much.

In 05' she returned to Florida and brought with her both cars. The Jeep, aside from its gas mileage, proved to be an excellent vehicle and a family favorite. Interior room was more than adequate for hay bails, horse feed and bringing our dogs to the store with us (all while it still being mint conditioned).

The ride itself proved a little edgy, although it is a Jeep. Interior noise was tolerable / being what you'd expect from this type of vehicle. Though don't get me wrong, it wasn't like VW Bug noisy ;).

The towing capabilities were amazing for the powerplant size. Thanks the inline 6, it proved extremely torquey and powerful. One could emit tire smoke just about through 1st gear. For genuine use though, my sister in Kentucky removed a Ford F-350 from a mud soaked horse field with bystanders in awe.

In sub-par weather conditions, it proved unstoppable. Snow, ice, mud were no threat to 4 wheel grip and the ultra low if necessary. Full time 3:55 dual traction was the standard grip.

The stereo was of moderate sound, while the interior shared the same characteristics. But all while staying durable and moderate. A/C and heat were very good. No complaints elsewhere.

Gas mileage was pretty set at 15/16 city on regular with highway being 21. While the inline 6 was removed recently from the Chrysler line up in favor of the gas guzzling, underpowered 3.7, it will prove to be big mistake. While mileage might have jumped 1 or 2 mpg with it, the ruggability and power are way gone.

The truck eventually got traded in for a new van against some of the wishes of other family members. But it remains one of the best vehicle buys ever for us, with nothing but compliments for what it provided.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L 6 cylinder in line, OHV

Summary:

In one sentence: GREAT CAR!!!

Faults:

I had Jeep Cherokee since last year, and when I got it, it already had fair mileage on it. However the only problem was the low oil pressure right from the beginning. The indicator on the dash-board says, at start up, that oil pressure's OK. Then when I drive for a while and stop, for example on the red light, indicator shows to "Check Gauges". I suspect it might be either gauge problem, computer problem or the crank shaft bearing worn out.

Another irritating problem is that only the driver can open and close windows. I have no idea what might be causing that problem; perhaps it's short circuiting somewhere? Or maybe it's the computer to blame for again?

I have read about Cherokee's electrical problems, but I never actually heard anyone have the same problem as I do. Can anyone make me feel better, by telling me that I'm not the only one =).

General Comments:

Great reliable small SUV.

Great for first time drivers.

Minor electrical problems, but that's it!

I have the same problem. I am pretty sure it is the gauges or the wiring harness, but I am not worried about it, it is not affecting the drive at all.
