2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 6 cylinder 4.0 liter

Summary:

A trailblazing monster with minor reliability issues

Faults:

A.C. compressor blew causing seizure which also took the serpentine belt.

(about 550$)

Radiator coolant fan broke and vibrated erratically until I replaced it. (150$)

Gas mileage unbelievably low at a whopping 12.5 miles to the gallon (that's if I go easy on it).

Rear wiper motor died twice within 2 months of purchase date.

(about 400$)

General Comments:

All in all I have enjoyed my jeep however as a college kid working full time I cannot afford the gas little own the little problems that keep occurring. I am a two time jeep owner and both vehicles have given me trouble with general reliability. My first Jeep Cherokee, (a 1987 with 190000 when purchased), was a money vacuum for 6 of the 23 months I owned it, (primarily due to the constant off-roading and trail climbing I did with it). However after putting the mileage up to 233000 miles and beating on it as hard as I could I still sold if for 1000 bucks. However I have to say it seems that the only problems that I have witnessed have all been minor. I have yet to see anyone I know kill their jeep altogether. It just seems impossible. Buyer beware of occasional high costing maintenance parts, however if you have any mechanical aptitude you can fix most minor problems yourself. It is a fairly easy vehicle to work on and so worth owning at least once in your life. Just be prepared to pay out a little and you'll understand what "It's a Jeep thing" really means.

I also own an '01 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I don't understand your gas mileage issue... I get exactly 20 MPG highway and 15 MPG city driving. I can only understand this if you are constantly accelerating quickly.

I have had problems with my front driver side speaker not working and my headlights falling out of place.

I hope you have had the recall work done on your Jeep! www.nhtsa.gov It took about 2 hours to complete the work on my Jeep, and didn't cost me a cent.

I can't say I have had any other mechanical problems with my Jeep... I've got 80,000 miles on it so far!

2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4 Liter

Summary:

Jeep Cherokee is a timeless classic that still out performs all others

Faults:

This is my third consecutive Jeep Cherokee. I had a Basic 92 Cherokee and then a 94 Sport. There were no failures on these two except normal maintenance. The first six months I owned the 2001 Classic, I was battling with a check engine warning light and many trips to the dealership for attempts to correct it. The problem involved the gas tank pressurization. The dealer replaced a number of fuel system parts, including the tank pump and then even the gas tank itself.

After nearly going to arbitration against the dealer to get the Jeep replaced, a regional Chrysler Mechanic discovered the problem was the cars brain or black box was faulty and generating random error codes.

That was replaced and I have not had a problem since.

General Comments:

Even with the glitch mentioned above, the 2001 Cherokee Classic is still a fine vehicle.

The off road performance is second to none.

The 4 Liter Engine is nearly bullet proof.

Still the best styled SUV out there. Traditional rugged good looks.

Get rid of the Liberty, bring back the Classic Cherokee line of Jeeps.

I agree with you. The Cherokee is much better than the Liberty. It looks like they cut off about half the vehicle. It's almost a girly looking SUV now...

2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic Straight 6

Summary:

Great for the city and off roading

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car that been manufacturer's fault.

General Comments:

The jeep is a great vehicle if you live near rough terrain.

The back seat is very small and uncomfortable.

Cargo room could be improved with a split bench seat.

Very powerful engine.

Very easy switch from 2 to 4 wheel drive.

Great in the winter. I avoided several accidents.

Great when you're stuck in traffic. Can easily go over boulevards!
