1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V6

Summary:

Big headache!

Faults:

Horn shorted out (twice within 2 months of ownership)

Power mirror motor failed (first year)

Fuel level sensor and fuel pump failed (1st year)

Throttle position sensor failed (2nd year)

Windshield seals failed (37,000 miles, 3rd year)

A/C Compressor failed (3rd year)

Transmission failed (38,000 miles)

Transmission failed after rebuilt (38,000+ miles)

Power steering pump failed (58,000 miles)

I'm sure there's more I can't remember right now.

General Comments:

Very comfortable when it is running, but I no longer have confidence that it will get me where I want to go, and that makes it tough to drive. I've been stranded out of town twice, and that is not a good feeling. It did give me a good excuse to get a cell phone though :)!

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 i6

Faults:

Nothing has really gone wrong.

Turned brake rotors at 35k.

Changed oil at 3000 mile intervals.

There was one minor problem that I took it to a dealer for: Air selector switch did not work at altitudes over 9000 ft. They installed a vacuum booster and that fixed it. Other than that it runs like a champ.

General Comments:

I tried different SUV's before I got this one. The Blazer drives nice but has Grandma's styling. Ford rides like an old clunker and has a lifeless, cheap interior. The Japanese have a good reputation but don't appeal to me.

This Jeep has served me well. It's a luxury vehicle with great off road capabilities. I've taken it places to where other SUV's would not even try to go. But at the same time it's a great travel vehicle. I have owned a lot of different cars but have never kept them longer than 2 years. This one is a keeper. I enjoy driving it and would recommend it to anyone.
