2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I-6

Summary:

Starting to worry..

Faults:

Rear power door locks are squealing.

General Comments:

Just like other entries here - I need help with power door lock repair (both rear doors are squealing) and leads on inexpensive replacement parts. I could not find "Harada DLA-01 Actuators" anywhere on the web as suggested in other posts. When will Jeep step up and fix what is inarguably a Jeep manufacturing defect? I have been a staunch Jeep supporter for years, but am starting to worry, especially seeing other comments here. Also, at what point does the government get involved to protect the consumer? HELP, anyone? Thanks - please hope something gets done! - Steve

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 Liter Powertech V8

Summary:

It is very fun to drive, but bring a heavy wallet.

Faults:

The previous owner of my Jeep had the heads on the motor rebuilt at approximately 45,000 miles.

The water pump was replaced at 65,000 miles.

The rear wiper motor was replaced at 67,000 miles.

The turn signal control stick was replaced at 50,000 miles.

The transfer case had to be resealed at 56,000 miles.

The receiver unit for the key fob system had to be replaced at 60,000 miles.

Since I have owned it I had to have a new starter put in after just two months of owning it, at 85,000 miles.

I also had a new fuel pump put in when it stalled on me in the middle of a busy intersection, where my friend and I had to push it down the road to the dealership, which lucky for us it was right around the corner. That was at 90,000 miles.

The rear axle seal on the driver's side leaked fluid all over my braking system and had to be replaced, after destroying my brakes. That was rather costly and inconvenient at 102,000 miles.

Currently my electronic climate control is not functioning properly, the heater works and so does the a/c, but the blower will not come on, originally thought it was the blower motor only to be let down to the sad truth that it is a wiring problem under the dash somewhere. I am currently driving my Jeep with the blower not working, and it's winter here in NY, what joy.

Some other random notes about the vehicle would be that both of the far back window air vents leak like Victoria Falls whenever it rains out, I'm told this is a seal problem, oh well.

All of the chrome finish on the outside emblems has peeled off leaving ugly gray plastic.

The steering wheel is unsightly due to disintegration of the leather.

My OEM Jeep brand navigation system which was installed at approximately 25,000 miles has stopped working since the unit under the back seat fried.

The machine eats my brakes like nobody's business, that's a little costly, and no I do not ram my brakes.

The 10 disc CD changer in the back is starting to have trouble reading perfectly fine CD's, I do not know why.

The diode lights behind some of the illuminated dash features are dying off slowly here and there.

When I drive over bumps the suspension on the passenger side sounds horrible, squeaks and squawks. Even though it is lubed regularly during my routine maintenance visits to the dealership.

General Comments:

I most certainly have a love/hate relationship with this Jeep. She gets down the road like it's nobody's business and eats the hills of the off-road world like they are her you know what.

The repairs and negative points really are trying to outweigh the good with this one, but I'm hoping that after all these years, miles, and thousands of dollars in repairs the "kinks" are all worked out of her.

The most fun to drive vehicle I have owned to this day, that does say a lot since I've gone from Dodge to Audi and then to Buick.

Overall the Buick Park Avenue I owned was the most reliable one, not to mention the easiest to fix.
