2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 Cyliner

Constant "tapping" noise while idling.

General Comments:

I just bought a 2003 Grand Cherokee with 39000 miles on it. I am very disappointed with the 6 cylinder performance; it feels like a small 4 cylinder engine. I hope the overhead computer showing gas mileage is wrong - it says I'm getting about 8.5 mpg. The main thing that concerns me is the constant engine "tapping" when idling... is this normal? I purchased a Chrysler warranty for it - I wonder if I'll be using it sooner than later...

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee with around 47 thousand miles on it. The reader says 18 mpg, and my 6 cylinder engine, although not high performance, definitely feels more powerful than a 4 cylinder engine. I'm sorry to say, but whoever you bought it from abused the poor thing beyond cruelty. I've owned mine since it came out around 2003. With normal maintenance and not "flooring it" (for lack of better vocabulary), it's made a great vehicle.

Don't buy a jeep if mileage is an issue. They just like to be push hard. I service it myself, and after changing 200 $ of suspension bushings, it just ride like a dream. Potholes eater thanks to solid structure.

Car may be unsafe braking

Faults:

Vibration of the steering wheel and pedal pulsation. Problem with the brake rotors. I had the same problem on a 2001 jeep. Who do I contact at Chrysler/jeep that will help me with this problem? Should not have this problem at 25,500 miles. Will Chrysler pay for the repairs?

I had problems with the brakes when it was brand new. They were very sensitive and squealed. I took it back to the dealer and they refused to fix them. I took it to a tire shop they turned the front rotors and problem stopped.

My 2004 developed a brake "Squeak" at about 700 miles. The dealer initially told me they couldn't fix brake defects. I reminded them they were a 5 Star dealer and I was still getting surveys.

Come to find out the squeak was a brake caliper, but was caused by an axel that was apparently bent during manufacture.

This fix corrected my problem and not more issues with my Jeep or the dealer.

When you pay the kind of money that a GC cost, the dealer and Diamler needs to be reminded who the customer is.

Lee Iacocca used to say "Satisfy the Customer". I believe this should still be the motto.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 2WD 4.0L I6

Summary:

Fun to drive, Great Quality, Great Looks, MISERABLE COSTLY BRAKE SYSTEM!

Faults:

Brake Pads Worn and Rotors Warped at only 26000 miles!

General Comments:

I was amazed to find out that my rotors needed to be REPLACED at 26000 miles...that's right, not turned, but replaced... my Honda's rotors lasted for years before I had to replace them... The more research I do, the more I seem to find out that this is happening about every 12000 miles... and Jeep refuses to do anything about it...that's enough for me to go to back to my trusty old Honda's any day!

Uhhh OK, that's why you buy better aftermarket brakes like a lot of people have done. Maybe if you had done more research you'd know this. I'd love to see a Honda go ANYWHERE as good as a Jeep does.

I bought a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and feel there is something wrong with the brakes. The pedal is very spongy and the master cylinder will bottom out. I have complained to three different dealers and a Tech Rep from Chrysler's and they all tell me it is normal. On one occasion when I backed out of a parking spot the brakes failed. The pedal went right to the floor and I almost didn't stop. When I pulled forward and applied the brakes at about 15MPH the pedal went right down and the anti-lock system activated. I feel that air is getting into the system some how. A brake system is a closed hydraulic system and the pedal should be firm. My previous car was a 2000 Cherokee Sport and I did not have any problem with the brakes. I am 57 years old and have been driving since I was 17 and have never driven a vehicle with a brake system this bad. I have filed a complaint with the NTHSA, the attorney general of Michigan and the Auto Safety Group in Washington. I urge all jeep owners who feel there brakes are bad and have got no satisfaction from the dealer to also file complaints. Thank you for your time.
