1984 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Limited 5.9 gas V8

Summary:

Won't be without one

Faults:

The NP229 transfer case broke at 121k miles.

The headlight switch needed replaced.

General Comments:

I have owned many Jeep Wagoners over the years and I refuse to be without one. I've also succeeded in corrupting my wife into loving them too. I can't say enough about how much we love these bruisers. Even when the transfer case broke, we were able to limp it home in 4 wheel low. Once we even brought one home (two hour drive) with a miss in the engine which I later found out was a hole in number seven piston.

1984 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 AMC

Summary:

One hell of a truck!

Faults:

Replaced the engine when I first bought the truck.

Changed the tranny in October 2000.

All sorts of small things, from water pumps, to wheel bearings, and just about everything in between.

General Comments:

Dear God, I love these things. I've owned 5 since I turned 16, and my dad has owned several himself.

People think I'm crazy with how much work I have to put into them to keep them on the road, however I enjoy it. I've yet to come across a more versatile 4x4 sport utility.

I currently have two of them. An 84 with 10 inches of lift and 36 in swampers, and an 88 with 3 inches of lift and 31 for gas mileage, which isn't good anyway.

The interior is the most comfortable out of any vehicle I've ever owned, and now that I've rebuilt my 84 from the ground up, it's very reliable, and it's always gotten me home after a day of wheeling in the back woods near my vacation property.

My 88 was purchased at a car auction in June of 01, and for 500 bucks, and it's given me no problems at all in the 15 months that I've owned it. And it'll hit 180000 next month.

The transmissions in these things are Chrysler 727 TF, and they are stout trannies. Both mine have Dana 44's front and rear.

1984 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 V8

Summary:

Luxury vehicle!

Faults:

Well, the transmission is almost ready to leave me, but hey.. 210,000 miles. Everything has lasted a lot longer than normal. The diecast ignition switch broke, but that was $50. Great car.

General Comments:

I love it. It is a work horse. Very fast, reliable and powerful. The 4WD is strong, I've pulled new 4x4s out of trouble!

Get one before they are all gone. Oh yeah... they are an eyecatcher also!

Sounds like a cool Jeep. I had an '82 that was plain with a straight six. Strong climber, and unique looks. Got it from Wyoming, because I live in Indiana and all old Jeeps are rusted and gone by now. I traded it out because I needed the money, but I liked it a lot when I had it. Good luck with yours. Later!

1984 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 5.9L 360 AMC V-8

Faults:

My auto transmission, the stalk shifts into 1st and 2nd but the gears don't change.

Starter.

Oil pressure gauge.

Bad wiring in the speakers.

General Comments:

It has its problems but I love it. It has never left me stranded and hopefully never will. They should make them like this again. But the seats need to recline.
