1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 GAS

Summary:

The good far out weights the bad, you must own one

Faults:

When I bought the car it hadn't been taken care of, so I had to solve all the common leaks. Replaced the oil pan gasket to solve the oil leak around 141,000 miles. Then the transmission pan started leaking when the truck sat parked for a couple of days. The gasket had hardened so I replaced it. Now I had a anti-freeze leak which I have found is coming from the intake manifold gasket (i think). I plan on replaceing it next weekend. I always had a problem with 4WD (popping sound coming from front) so I took the hubs off and all I found was rust. I replaced the bearing, hubs, and seals now it works perfect, but still grinding sound when going into 4WD-low.

General Comments:

You must keep in mind this is an old car and with routine maintenance will stay running strong. This car has surprised me several times. When I wanted to turn around and go back down the trail something told me go for it, and this jeep never let me down. it has been stuck a few times, but never broke down or stoped trying (knock on wood). Theres nothing like rolling all the windows down (includeing the back) and just crusing down a trail. I'm not sure about other areas, but where I live you don't ever see them, and when you find someone that has one its like you've run into that old friend from high school.

Even when I spend a weekend every now and then on fixing the little problems I never regret buying this real SUV.

1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer limited inline 6

Summary:

Not bad for its age

Faults:

The water hose broke once, so the engine overheated and stalled as I drove into my driveway. The seats broke off the runners, and the ceiling fabric starting falling off. The fake wood started peeling off and a slight rust problem.

General Comments:

This car was way to expensive for what it really is. I bought this thing in 87 for 24,000 dollars. After a decade or so it started falling apart. Damn good engine though. Unexpected considering the engine was AMC, Renault, and Jeep. The seats are also very uncomfortable. The audio system was terrible too, but easily fixable I guess.

I have the same one, but someone put a paint job on it and as for the rust, it was recommended in the service book to clean and use undercoating paint...it's like rubber and helps to deadin the sound too... But I Love my Jeep just needs some care.

1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer not listed 5.9/360cid

Summary:

A great Hunting-Fishing Shack w /4wheel drive

Faults:

The engine and transmission leak.

I had to replace the steering damper and drag link.

Driver seat worn some, the rest of interior is excellent.

Power windows can be a drag.

General Comments:

"BIG COUNTRY" is truly a 4x4 tank. With his legendary heritage I'm not surprised with his off road capability and yet nonetheless very impressed. On the highway, he handles very well.

The electrical system has had some bugs to be worked out, nothing a little emory cloth and white lithium grease hasn't cured,..for the most part.

This is the finest all original specimen I have come across.

1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Summary:

A thing of beauty

Faults:

"Woody" was owned by people who just didn't like him very much.

We've done minor repairs; New exhaust, brakes, tune-up, and a new brain box.

The fact is he runs really well.

He has a little body damage (previous owner backed up with door open) but I have that scheduled to be repaired. In the process of fixing back door (power works back there parts wore out) and locating seats in better condition.

General Comments:

The is the most wonderful vehicle ever made. There is more room in it than any newer suv could imagine. The only fault is the power back door for cargo (no outer handle)
