1997 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.5 Litre 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great vehicle for VT, some problems

Faults:

Major Exhaust problems. Front pipe kept separating.

Major rust/rot problem on the passengerside where the floor pan connects to the body.

General Comments:

Great vehicle, pretty rugged! Inside is cramped and somewhat uncomfortable for long trips. Some body problems that started before my warranty ran out that they would not fix.

1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0 Liter 6 Cylinder

Summary:

Top down, doors off... Jeeps are fun!

Faults:

Replaced oxygen sensor a few months after I bought it.

Alternator went out around 100,000 miles.

Transmission started leaking around 110,000 miles. Started to shift rough.

Unexplained engine stalling at low speeds. Replacing spark plugs and distributor didn't fix the problem.

Catalytic converter rattles.

Hole in exhaust manifold.

Fenders discolored.

Paint cracked and fell off the mirror brackets.

General Comments:

I bought this Jeep after dreaming of owning one for a long time. I drove it for about 2.5 years and had a great time. Driving with the top down and doors off in the summer was a blast.

A few minor things went wrong, as listed above, but I never had to make a major repair. My Jeep was my daily driver, and it never left me stranded anywhere.

If you like to customize your vehicle, then you would love a Jeep. I was really able to personalize the looks of my Jeep for very little cost.

Overall, I had a great time in my Jeep. It was no luxury car, but the lack of comfort was part of the charm. I had to let mine go recently because I wanted something that gets better gas mileage. When I get to the point where I can afford to have a second car, I'll most likely buy another Jeep as a toy.

Did this guy sell me my jeep!!! Exactly the same problems. I have 130,000 on mine. Distributor bearings squeak. New battery fixed the stalling issue after replacing plugs, cables, distributor and rotor. transmision leaks too. I still love it though. This pup can go anywhere.

1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4.0L 6-Cylinder

Summary:

Wranglers are fun, timeless, and the best looking SUV on the road!

Faults:

Vent door stopped working for top vents. Cost nearly $400 to fix.

Exhaust Manifold is cracked.

General Comments:

I love my Jeep! Considering the miles, I think it has held up really well. I love the manual transmission, although it takes awhile to get used to it. I had a 1994 Jeep Cherokee Country before and I liked it too, but I like my Wrangler better. I have a hard top for it and had an aftermarket soft top that I am going to sell. If you are going to get a soft top get a factory one. Don't waste the time with the crappy aftermarket ones. I am so sad that the Sahara name wasn't continued to 2005. I am still not sold on the Unlimited. If I buy another one, (which I will), I will get a either a black Rubicon or another used Sahara. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone. I drive about 70 miles a day and I still love it. Definitely go with a hard top for winter driving. The rear wiper and defroster are great too. When the Jeep is all waxed and shined up it is one of the most timeless, gorgeous vehicles on the road.

1997 Jeep Wrangler SE 4 cylinder

Summary:

It is a good vehicle overall and I would buy another!

Faults:

'Bucking' stopped with replaced oxygen sensor.

Had leaking radiator replaced.

Brakes locked up in rainy weather.

Radio needed replacement.

Catalytic converter was replaced.

Rubber seals around the soft-top doors wear out and water leaks in.

Zippers on soft-top doors get worn out and go off track.

Sway bars wear out at 54,000 miles.

Brakes replaced at 52,000 miles.

General Comments:

The jeep generally runs well and is fun to drive.

It is great in snow and easy to park.

The cabin is noisy and you can't hear the radio on highway travel.

The 4 cylinder does fair on hills.

The soft top is expensive to replace as well as just the doors.
