1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport I-6

Summary:

CRAP

Faults:

You name it, it has gone wrong. Rear end built ($2300) third time out of warranty with 57,000 miles on it and all highway use (never off road).

Don't let someone tell you they are great, they are CRAP C-R-A-P. It gets less miles per gallon on the highway than my Suburban. The windshield needs to be replaced at least once a year.

The reliability of this vehicle is an absolute JOKE unless you are the one having to sink money into it every couple months. The thing literally fell apart at 36,001 miles as soon as it was out of warranty. It is built by CHRYSLER. Ask someone you know who owns a Chrysler what they think of it.

Buying this piece of junk new was a total waste of money.

General Comments:

I didn't expect comfort, or washers that actually hit the windshield on the highway or things like that because it is, after all, a Jeep.

I did expect the stupid thing to run without things CONSTANTLY breaking on it from week to week.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

"Ask someone you know who owns a Chrysler what they think of it."

I asked my mom about her 2001 Chrysler Town and Country, and she said it was pretty reliable. My dad's old 1999 Concorde was reliable, despite a bad starter.

My point? Don't judge a manufacturer just because of a bad experience you had with a single model. It's just plain stupidity if you ask me.

Your one-word title is the perfect description of your review.

I disagree that your "title" says it all! I have a 99 wrangler that I have had since 39,000 miles, now has 108,000 and has been driven daily (60 miles) to work as well as in the Sierra Nevada mtns and all around Lake Superior and through parts of it. No I am not some college kid either. It holds kids just fine. Yes I have had to do regular maintenance like brakes, battery, radiator (which I replaced in front of my house on a busy street) which was easy and I am a woman. I am sorry you had so much trouble, but I would never drive another make of vehicle, I also own a 2000 Cherokee which has been a dream as well.

1998 SE, daily driver, 140000 miles, other than regular maintenance and a radiator at 80,000, never been let down, always fun to drive.

My other vehicle is a 01 F250 Superduty (NOW THAT IS A PIECE OF CRAP) LOVES THE DEALER, afraid to drive out of town. Have no faith it will make a round trip, looks good though.

Bought both new, Jeep for 13,000, F250 for 30,000. Value today Jeep, 140,000 miles about 4000.00. F250, 80,000 miles about 7000,00.

Would not be without a Wrangler, could live well without that truck.

My 1995 Wrangler is my daily driver - 141,500 miles

The only repairs needed have been typical wear & tear items - tie rods & ball joints, exhaust system & converter. That is it in the last 4 years.

This Jeep has been superbly reliable. If you take care of your Jeep it will provide many, many years of reliable service.

1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0L I6

Summary:

I will never drive anything again, unless its another Jeep

Faults:

AX-15 transmission went out at 63,000 miles.

Spider gears went out at 75,000 miles.

Entire rear end went out at 82,000 miles.

Power steering gear box went out at 65,000 miles.

Radiator leaks from the top.

Throttle Position Sensor fried.

Crankshaft Position Sensor went out.

General Comments:

It seems to be that if one thing isn't wrong, then something else is.

Great off-road capability, just a suspension lift is all that is really required.

The NV-4500 is a great transmission to replace the AX-15 with, it is very heavy duty and extremely reliable.
