2002 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.5

Summary:

Perhaps the best deal going for flood prone urban areas with neglected streets.

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong to date, which hasn't happened with any other car I've owned. this is only my forth brand new car, but the other three all made at least one trip to the dealer to correct problems within the first moth of ownership... not his one.

General Comments:

The ride is nearly perfect for the poor streets of urban areas. Potholes, road rash, rail crossings, crumbling temp. repairs that have been in place for years, and even well used detours are the Wrangler's home.

What's wrong is that the urban aspect has been neglected. Security is a joke. There is no hood lock or gas lock, only the hard top offers any real interior security, but even then the doors can be taken off in a matter of minutes.

This one has the hard top, which I had to order and wait for as Jeep seems put them on the 4Cyl. only under pressure. taking the hard top off is more trouble, but once off, adding an after market "Bikini" type top is more fun.

Power is, as expected, geared to the low end. Highway driving isn't uncomfortable, its just that any resemblance to power ends once the needle moves into the middle 50's.

2002 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.5L inline 4 cylinder

Summary:

Absolutely the most fun you can have in any weather

General Comments:

It is a great around town car, easy to park, and acceleration is surprisingly lively due to its torquey engine.

I have read that the soft tops are very loud, however the only comment I have received from passengers is "I thought it would be much louder than this". This is most likely due to the top being redesigned a couple of years ago.

For a truck it handles almost like a sports car. It has tight quick-ratio steering and limited body lean.

Driving my Jeep with the top off in the spring or summer gives me the feeling of being on a never ending vacation. And, like all Jeeps, it absolutely shines when the temps drop and the rain turns to ice, snow, or sleet.

It would not be a Jeep if it was not one of the most off-road capable, straight from the factory vehicles made.
