2008 Kia Rio LX 1.6 liter I4

Summary:

Much better than I expected

Faults:

The big thing was 2 engine coils failed in the 8 years I had the car; the first was under warranty. The 2nd one failed out of warranty. Which was a bit costly.

Other than this, just general things like 2 sets of tires, belts, fluid changes, and general things. I will say, I never put a set of brakes on this car. They never needed it!

General Comments:

I took a chance on this car, At the time Kia's reputation was a bit spotty. I had just gotten out of a long term relationship and moved back to my hometown. My prior car, needed too much work put into it, to justify keeping it. I wanted to spend under $20,000 (USA). Gas was 4$ a gallon at this point as well. So, that was a factor.

With the warranty and price, I went for it. I can't say this was a Honda Civic or a Toyota Corolla, but for the price it didn't have to be. Gas mileage was OK, could have been better. Inside was logically laid out. Not too many premium options, but it didn't bother me. The material on the seats I found to be cheap, stained easily and were worn down when I sold the car. The engine was under powered and a bit gruff.

For 8 years, the car served me well. I had a good run with it, I would buy another one.

2008 Kia Rio LX

Faults:

At 19,000 miles, I started to have trouble with a lot of things. First they had to replace my brakes, and I started to have trouble with the transmission. It doesn't want to shift into gear right away; it takes a minute, even though it's automatic. The dealer said the fluid is dark like it's burnt, but they won't do anything unless I pay for the flush. I don't feel that's right when obviously there's something wrong.

Now some front bearings are bad and have to be replaced; thankfully it's covered. But it just seems like maybe I have a lemon. I don't know what to do.

Troubled in Ohio.

Summary:

I think this car is great!

General Comments:

This is a good running car. Very cute, small, and comfy. Was afraid to buy a Kia, but it has proven me wrong and I would definitely buy another one.

Also has great gas mileage.

2008 Kia Rio LX 1.6L

Summary:

Solid little car, and a true gas saver

Faults:

Slow gear shift on the automatic transmission from reverse to drive, and vice versa.

Knock on the tin that this car is made of, no problems as of yet, but reading the review forums, I am a bit scared of the lack of warranty upholding on the part of the manufacturer.

To be frank, I have been trying to sell this car for 5 months now, and I have not had one bite yet. I am fairly priced, and I have only had auto brokers try to buy it for far below the true market value.

General Comments:

I replaced a '02 Hyundai Elantra with manual, with my '08 Kia Rio LX, automatic with the power package. Although a bit smaller, the Rio out performs the Hyundai ten fold.

I drive my Rio 140 miles round trip to work, and besides the uncomfortable seats, the car is not so bad.

The radio is a plus with the power package, upgraded 6 speaker with a sub woofer built in.

The car is a lot bigger inside than it appears. I am 6 foot tall and I have no problems getting in and out.

I have a lot of stuff in and out of this car, and it does not ever stop. I am on the go 24/7, and besides the recommended oil changes, spark plugs and transmission fluid services, normal wear, the car has been going strong since I drove off the lot.

The lot is another story, but we will not go there.

Assuming the car has been adequately advertised and presented, the only conclusion is that the asking price is not what the buyers consider as "fair".

Summary:

Good car for people on a budget

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I bought my Kia Rio in June of 2008. It is Gold in color.

So far, I've had nothing go wrong with the car. The windshield had to be replaced at 3,000 miles due to getting cracked with a stone on the highway, but other than that it's a good little car for the money.

Summary:

Great for people on a tight budget, look no farther!

Faults:

Nothing as of this writing.

General Comments:

I bought my New Kia Rio about a month ago to replace my 99 Civic. I was looking for a Chevy Aveo, but I could not find any in my area so I choose the Kia.

So far I don't have anything bad to say about it. I had an 04 Camry that was a rattle trap (last new car I bought), and by this time I had it back to the dealer a couple times, but so far no problems with this Kia Rio. I think I got a winner this time.

The seats are very comfortable, decent trunk size. The radio picks up radio station nicely. It's awesome that at 4$ a gallon gas that you can put 20$ in and it fills it up a good share of the way.

Only downfall I would say is that, trying to merge onto a busy freeway can be tricky for a second or 2, but other than that the car has ample power.
