2000 Kia Sportage 4.0

Summary:

This is a great little truck

Faults:

This is a great little truck, I have had no problems with my KIA Sportage convertible.

General Comments:

KIA Sportage Convertible 2000.

I researched the 2000 Sportage, which is the truck I have. I could not find any complaints at the time. Mine is a convertible. I felt blessed to have found this little truck.

I purchased my KIA second hand for $3,000.00. The previous owner never had any problems. He told me it would need some new tires. I replaced the tires at 68,000 miles.

I am ready to replace the brake pads, at 90,000, for the first time.

While it is true that “get up and zoom” is not one of its assets, it is dependable, has plenty of room for my two large dogs (150lb each) and has never failed to start and run well.

I read the complaints about the cup holders. While they are not in the standard location, which takes the brain a little time to adjust, I think it is a great idea. They are centralized, you can reach over for your drink and not take your eyes off the road (a great safety feature).

I have never had any problems with the electrical system, windshield wipers, radio, spare tire assembly, rust, battery, etc.

I wonder about the dealerships where the lemons were purchased and which factory built those particular Kias.

This is a great little truck. I get great comments on it all the time and have had several offers for purchase.

2000 Kia Sportage

Summary:

OK for the money

Faults:

Power window on the passenger side is slow going up and down.

General Comments:

The car handles well. I drive 120 miles to and from work every day. Seats could be more comfortable. Cup holder location stinks. Can't see digital clock or controls when in use.

No pick up. Don't expect to win races. It's a high riding sedan, not a SUV.

2000 Kia Sportage ex 2.0 4 cylinder

Summary:

Excellent car for the price.

Faults:

The drivers side window regulator wore out. The master window switch wore out. The fan clutch motor had to be replaced around 100,000. A front wheel bearing wore out at 133,000. The 4 wheel drive hub mechanisms malfunctioned twice last winter.

General Comments:

First let me preface this review by saying I ABUSE this car. It is used as a paper route delivery vehicle on gravel roads, 140 miles EVERY DAY. The window is rolled up and down in the winter (for app. 5 months) over 100 times a night, potholes and golf ball size gravel pummel the suspension and body for an average of 4 hours a night, and the engine and transmission are gunned and reversed continuously. I rate this car on the level it is purported to be, a cheap import. I didn't expect BMW quality for $7,000. It's main flaw in my opinion was the poorly designed 4 wheel drive. The vacuum hoses acquired holes the first time, the mechanisms malfunctioned the last time. I have just recently installed the aftermarket manual hubs and have yet to test these. The window regulator, switch, and wheel bearing are from the driving conditions. I do as much of my own repairs and maintenance as possible for obvious reasons and this has been an easy car to work on. The parts are cheap compared to its more expensive import counterparts.

2000 Kia Sportage EX 4 liter

Summary:

It is no good

Faults:

I have own my Kia Sportage since new. And in the last 3 years the engine light keeps coming on. And when I take it to the dealer, they fix it and the next day or so it comes back on. And now at 94000 miles on it, it keeps blowing a fuse that runs almost every thing on the car, from my tran to the dummy lights and gas and temp. And I don't have any warranty on it any more. And I have 2 more years left on payment for the car too. It is not worth it to buy anything from KIA. I have been on the phone with them and email them too and nothing works. So if you can pay a little more for a car or van, buy it and not a KIA.
