2005 Kia Sportage LX 1.7 6 cylinder gas

Summary:

This is a good choice

General Comments:

Purchased this car 3 months ago. It runs great and is a very comfortable ride. Very well designed and engineered.

Am able to achieve about 23.5 mpg average, based on over 1000 miles of driving, mostly city miles.

I emphasize again what a smooth ride this is. Glad I bought it.

2005 Kia Sportage LX 6 cylinder

Summary:

Great little SUV for the money!

Faults:

The back door pistons went out at about 45,000 miles but the dealer was quick to fix them. Although they did have to special order them.

General Comments:

This is a great little on demand 4 wheel drive SUV. I have driven it from LA, CA to Chicago, IL several times. Including in the snow. I also take it up to my cabin in the mountains frequently.

The car is comfortable and well appointed. The air conditioning is ice cold.

The car may be a little slow on pickup but it sure handles well on the mountain roads.

The seats fold down flat for those much needed trips to the local hardware store.

2005 Kia Sportage EX 2.7L V6

Summary:

Good value for a hard working little SUV

Faults:

Two complaints:

Standard tires need replacing already.

Gas mileage is less than stated. (About 18.8 average in not too difficult conditions - flat farmland)

General Comments:

I tried the CR-V, Saturn Vue, Subaru Forester and Rav4 before choosing this car. I actually liked it best, and the price couldn't be beat. I'm glad I got the luxury package (even with this, it was less than all the others standard models) And check the warranty! (70,000/100,000)

Very comfortable ride. Five standard air bags plus sturdy feel and easy maneuvering make it feel safe. Feels and sounds like good quality.

A little slow on pick up, and that's the way I like it with a couple of teenagers. A very good car for young drivers - safe, easy to handle, and goes where they want to. (Snowboarding, beaching, soccer etc.)

AWD works great in mountains. The manual 'help' gears are somewhat useful.

Holds lots of stuff. The 60/40 back seat is fabulous for hauling equipment and gear. Plus the comfortable back seat has plenty of leg and head room for 3 adults. All seats recline - good for long trips.

2005 Kia Sportage EX 2.7

Faults:

First pair of Tires were worn bald at 23,000 miles!

Dealer says "I didn't rotate them often enough"

Second pair of Tires worn bald by 35,000 miles!

Dealer says "I didn't rotate them often enough"

Cruise Control doesn't work at all anymore. Dealer replaced "module" under warranty but it still doesn't work. Originally it worked very intermittently. I complained again but still no call back from KIA dealer.

(It's been over six months now since they said they'll check into it further and call me back) (Yes, I have an answering machine)

Gas mileage 3-4 miles per gallon less than advertised.

General Comments:

High maintenance vehicle.

1. What kind and rating of tires are you buying?

2. What is your driving style? The estimates are just that, estimates, how you drive greatly influences that number.

2005 Kia Sportage EX 2.7 V6

Summary:

Started out great, now questioning

Faults:

Intermittent, non related electrical problems, seems to happen in high heat (ambient not engine) remote door locks, intermittent windshield wipers, esp, cruise control, brake lights, will work properly at times, and then not work, then work again.

'ESP OFF' light will come on, stay on, until restart, then the next week will be fine.

'Cruise' light comes on, but will not set, then an later will work fine.

Remote door lock clicker will work fine and later, the car will not respond.

The problems occurred in Denver area during summer of 06, and now again in summer of 07. Had problems last weekend on a road trip through dry, hot (high 90's low 100's) SW Colorado and New Mexico. Weather has been cooler this week, and have had no problems.

At the end of last summer, I took it to the dealer, they could not diagnose any issues, but it seemed to 'fix' itself. No issues through the winter. Started up again mid June. Read about similar issues with 2000 Sephia.
