2008 Kia Sportage LX

Summary:

Regret purchasing it

Faults:

Check Engine Light triggers on and off constantly.

Was told my dealer it was the gas cap, and they "fixed" it. When the light appeared the 2nd time I checked the gas cap, removed and clicked it back on the warning light was still there. It disappears and reappears... nobody seems to know why. Unsettling and disappointing.

Many regrets, wish I had found this website before purchasing.

General Comments:

The only thing I like about this vehicle right now is it's hatchback window feature.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

As a former owner of a Sportage who experienced the exact same problems and more the early days of owning a 2000 Sportage, I feel thankful that I didn't purchase a new one. I am still struggling to make ends meet thanks to the thousands of dollars in repairs that this vehicle has cost me. My recommendation is to get rid of it at your first opportunity. I wish I hadn't kept this one so long.

IGNORE it!! Check engine lights are just gimmicks to get you to bring your car in for (usually UNNECESSARY) repairs. I drove one of my cars 135,000 miles with a piece of black tape over the check engine light. The car never had a single problem and when I sold it (at 165,000 miles) the little check engine light was still glowing merrily behind the black tape. Or you could just hang a green light next to it on the dash during the holidays to look Christmassy!!

My wife had the exact same problem. After the third trip to the dealership for the exact same problem, they determined that it was a defective sensor in the gas cap. The dealer replaced the gas cap and the has never happened again. You might want to talk to the dealer and see if they can replace the gas cap assembly for you. It was a quick fix and solved the problem. Hope this helps.
