1996 Lincoln Mark VIII V8

Summary:

It is a luxury car with a lot of power and I get a lot of compliments on it

Faults:

The front air ride system needed to be worked on and the air ride shocks were replaced. The front air ride system went down around 65,000 miles.

The alternator was replaced around 70,000 miles, along with the battery because the idiot light never came on.

Currently it is mis-firing, not in idle, but during acceleration. It just started doing it this week. I suspect its the spark plugs and wires, but it only has 77000.

General Comments:

The car is reliable, no doubt about that.

I find it hard to work on it myself and it is expensive to work on.

I believe it is worth fixing if and when you have the money to do it.

1996 Lincoln Mark VIII All aluminum 4.6 liter 32-valve

Summary:

A high performance and styling steal

Faults:

The chromed wheels have started to corrode on the inside. One wheel has developed a pinhole leak through the rim as a result of this corrosion.

The remote release for the fuel door often takes over ten tries before the door pops open.

General Comments:

This is one of the best styled automobile, inside and out, to come out of Detroit.

The performance and handling is first rate, right up there with cars like Jaguar.

Unfortunately the headlights are dismal. The low beam lights are practicly worthless.

But the optional JBL sound system is fantastic.

Have either of you tried to replace the bulb inside the headlight? Years ago, I replaced the bulbs or lamps inside the lenses of my 5.0 Mustang for around 15 bucks. The results were brighter lights that threw light farther down the road. It was a great investment.
