1997 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series 4.6L

Summary:

Luxury at its Finest!

Faults:

When I first bought the car, after about 3 months the transmission started slipping. After about 4 months the transmission went out on it, I purchased a brand new one, and haven't had a problem since.

Now I have a alarm problem, every time I get in or out of the car, the alarm goes off... also if the car is just chillin there, it will go on and on! I'm taking it to the dealer ship tomorrow, I will post what it is later!

General Comments:

Excellent car though, really comfortable, looks beautiful, and i love it!

I have the same problem with my 1997 Town Car. The alarm starts honking the horn after a few hours of just sitting. Sometimes, I can turn it off with the key fob, but sometimes I have to disconnect the battery. The dealership says it is probably a bad sensor. They replaced one, but did not fix the problem. I don't think they know what they are talking about in this case. If you have a solution, it would be most welcome.

My alarm was going off also, the ignition switch was changed and that fixed the problem. Best American car ever built!

My sister has a 1997 Lincoln Town Car and the alarm goes off all the time and we have taken it to 2 dealers and they can't seem to find the problem, any help?

My alarm goes off too. The speaker wire is unplugged so it's nothing more than just flashing lights. :P.

Great car!

The horn on my 1997 Lincoln Town Car honks periodically once or twice a week for no reason at all.

Please give me some solutions to my problem.

Most regular gas now has "ethanol" added, which may cause pinging issues in older engines.

I love the way they name parts. Air Conditioning Control Flap Actuation. Made to sound very expensive "actuation" and it is. I know, I replaced it on my 95. It's a gate actually, but I guess you already know that since you replaced it. Ford has bad gates. EVERY Ford I ever owned not only the LTC gate went bad. Ford should build a better gate to prevent all those MUSTANGS getting out.

1997 Lincoln Town Car Jack Nicklaus Signature Editio 4.6 Liter

Summary:

An excellent large, comfortable, luxury car choice

Faults:

The upper door hinge on the driver's door is worn and will have to be replaced.

I haven't had this problem, but the plastic intake manifold will have to be replaced with an improved model in the future. The original ones split from stress points. This is an inherent problem with the 4.6 Liter engine from late 1995 to 2001, I believe.

General Comments:

The car is beautiful in design and color. The color is two tone with metallic silver gray on the bottom from the chrome strip on the doors down and "Deep Evergreen" greenish-blue on the body that changes with the lighting. The design is long and sleek, very elegant.

The luxury and convenience appointments are many and varied and easy to reach. The inside is very roomy and comfortable; the largest American car built in 1997, except for limos. The fit and finish quality overall is very good.

The air suspension ride is superb and very comfortable. The ride is quiet and occupants are separated from road and drive train noise. The leather seating and seat adjustments make for a very comfortable ride. Long road trips are quite comfortable.

Although it's not a race car, performance is more than adequate with the dual exhaust 210 hp engine and 3.27 rear end gearing. Considering the weight and size of the car, acceleration is good. The car is able to hold it's own on the open road.

Handling is somewhat soft, but can be improved with slightly stiffer shocks and polyurethane sway bar bushings without sacrificing ride quality.

I have a 97 also, my manifold went also. Most people have had the cost covered by Ford. I am trying to get mine covered. Try http://www.edmunds.com/ for more information. I have found a lot of information on that site, and it is also a forum. Good luck.
