1998 Lincoln Town Car Cartier 4.6L V8

Summary:

Highly Reliable Luxury Car

Faults:

At 160,000 the transmission went out.

The drivers side won't roll up, but it goes down. I think the problem is with the switch. Having a problem finding one.

General Comments:

Very reliable car, I had a 95 Town Car with 295,000 miles on the original motor and transmission. I also have a 2000 De ville which isn't as reliable.

1998 Lincoln Town Car Executive Series 4.6 liter 8 cylinder

Summary:

Great luxury used car bargain

Faults:

Left rear passenger window does not open.

Right turn signal control going out.

General Comments:

Have not had to take the car to the dealer for any repairs in the almost 2 years I have had this car.

Very nice ride.

Original Michelin tires just gave out at 60,000 miles.

Brakes still have 40% more wear to go.

Get around 22 to 24 miles per gallon.

Silver paint job could be more stylish.

1998 Lincoln Town Car Executive 4.6 Liter

Summary:

Always wondering what will need replacing next

Faults:

Most everything that went wrong while I had the car was still under warranty. I was fortunate for the 50,000 mile warranty. Unfortunately, it seemed that the car was always at the dealer.

The front seat track needed replacing.

The passenger power window unit needed replacing.

The cowl directed rain to channel in to the car and puddled on the rear floor. This was cause to replace the carpet.

Tie rod and ball joint was replaced.

The pull handle on the drivers door was separating from the door panel and was replaced.

A rear wheel cracked and had to be replaced.

Brake light switch shorted out.

General Comments:

The car is a very pretty vehicle. It has great style and comfortable seating. Too many things went wrong with it during the less than two years I owned it. Also, It handles poorly over rough roads.

Yikes! For a $50k+ car to have what sounds like serious quality problems is just plain scary to me! To have an alloy wheel crack, I've never heard of happening. Sounds like a serious design flaw or poor quality materials used. Maybe both. To have problems with water leaking and puddling on your floor because of a faulty channel is also pretty outrageous for a car of this price and mileage. To have ANY mechanical or electrical problems by 55k miles is outrageous for any car, in my opinion. Fords scare me.
