1987 Mazda B2000 cab plus 2.0

Summary:

I think that a Mazda truck is a very good vehicle and an excellent used car buy

Faults:

Front brake pads wore out.

Front rotors had to be changed.

Right front caliper was dragging.

Heater control is loose, so I leave it on defroster/heat in case it breaks.

General Comments:

Although I have only owned the truck for a year it has been very reliable for a 17 year old truck.

The truck dosen't have much power, but gets 24 MPG, on the original drive train.

I love the roominess inside for such a small truck, even for a large person.

I think what I like most about the truck is how simple it is, everything inside the truck is easy to use and for the most part seems to be made to last.

All of the trucks interior is in very good shape, hardly any wear.

I also enjoy my B2000, very reliable and built to last, not much on power, but good MPG.

1987 Mazda B2000 SE5 2.0

Summary:

Tiny, but tough

Faults:

Replaced the alternator and fan belt in 2002.

Has the front brakes replaced in 2002.

Antenna just fell off when I was driving (2002).

Replaced a melted hose in 2003.

Has a minor oil leak that I haven't attempted to fix quite yet.

General Comments:

This little truck is tough as nails. I've loaded over a ton into his bed and he's hauled it home (up hills) like a trooper.

I had a shoddy tire replacement done on him recently and it blew when I was doing near 70 on the interstate. The truck was so solid and easy to drive that I barely noticed the jerk as the tire went and only realized I had a flat when I heard it flapping.

I've driven this car from Seattle to San Francisco twice in the past year and I've never had a problem with him.

Pretty spartan interior, but I appreciate the simplicity of it. The only thing I would hold against Mazda is the gnarly speakers that make listening to the radio painful.

I have no intention of ever selling this truck. When the engine goes he'll be my electric-conversion project.

Montie-i have a 87 b2000 with over 200.000 thousand miles on it. the only thing I have replaced is front brakes, tires, cap, rotor, and plugs. the heater controls don't work very well, the dome light is broken and the door locks had to be fixed. it also has an oil leak from a bad oil pan gasket. I've hauled large rocks, lumber, you name it I've hauled it and the darn thing just keeps on going. I wish I would have purchased 2.

I love my 83 b2000. It's just a plain simple little work truck. Tough as nails and still runs well. Changed an alternator, and front brakes. Over 175,000 and still will do over 85 down the freeway.

I've got an 87 B2000 SR5 5-speed and a 2002 Infiniti car.

I'll take the old truck anyday. This truck will run forever and it is still fun to drive 20 years later.

I just got my 1987 B2000 SE5 from my son, we traded vehicles. He got my 120K mile 2004 Kia Rio and I got his 221K mile truck. This little truck is a trooper! In the two months I’ve owned it, I put about 2000 miles on it, hauled about 10 tons of compost and a washing machine.

When I got the truck, it was in need of some care at 219K miles. I put a new front end on it for only $106 front brakes, fuel sending unit, temp sending unit, alternator and a few minor repairs, but the engine and drive train are all original with the engine leaking some oil.

Love this truck!

I also have a 1987 Mazda B-2000. The windshield washer quit working (pump?), the front dome light is broken and the heater fan only works on the high settings. Otherwise it is in great shape and runs fine. I probably have a couple of people a week stop by wanting to buy this truck. Why someone doesn't make a truck like this cheaply anymore I don't understand. I cannot afford $30,000 for a new truck.
