2001 Mazda B4000 sev6 4.0 liter V6

Summary:

Good truck, great ride, poor gas mileage, terrible transmission

Faults:

The tires were recalled and replaced by the dealer.

The dashboard needed to be replaced due to a cracked air vent louver.

The original transmission totally failed and had to be replaced at 8400 miles.

The second transmission had to be totally replaced at 9960 miles. The dealership where the vehicle was purchased is currently replacing the second transmission with its third one.

General Comments:

I purchased this truck after extensive research, finding that it had a very good track record. I will be retiring soon from over thirty years in police service and purchased this truck new with plans to drive it well into my retirement. It is my first new vehicle purchase. When the original transmission failed I was out of state, lost five days of work waiting for a new transmission to come in to the Green Bay, Wi. dealer, had to pay more rent than planned due to the stay-over, but figured the malady was a fluke. Fifteen hundred miles later the second transmission totally failed. The truck again is in the dealership awaiting shipment of a replacement trans for install.

Illinois lemon law supposedly requires four similar failures during a specified period of time before Mazda Corp. considers remuneration/replacement.

I am exploring my options as I write this. I find no other similar complaints, but am interested in communicating with anyone with similar problems with the b4000 2x4 truck.

I know this sounds somewhat ludicrous, but, other than the trans problems, the truck has met every expectation. Any comments, advice is greatly welcomed.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Stay with a manual transmission on this vehicle. the automatics are fair to poor. If you go with a 5 speed manual (it's a truck remember?) you'll get more use from the power. Much better gas mileage and less problems.

Hello, I have a 2003 Mazda B3000 Dual Sport, and we had to have our entire transmission replaced at 4500 Kms!!!

They said the Counter Shaft was not true and that caused 90% of the bearing to explode then they put it back together and it was worse, so they had to order an entire new transmission. (5 speed transmission). It took 3 weeks and in the mean time I missed Dear hunting season because they gave me a Toyota echo for a rental.
