1990 Mercury Grand Marquis GS 5.0

Summary:

Hooptie!!!

General Comments:

I have had this car for a week and put 400 miles on it. Decent gas mileage... wish it had better pick up... VERY comfortable..

One or two windows work, the back locks work, heat works, leaks very little gas, very rusted, idles smooth, changes gears OK, radio works, all lights work, all gages work, cruise control works, and did I mention very rusty?

All this for $500.00. If it lasts me through the winter, it will have paid for itself.. how could I go wrong? I will keep it till nothing is left LOL.

Oh, and I named her Gloria!

1990 Mercury Grand Marquis GS 6.0

Summary:

I love it, I know the problems are very common in an old car

Faults:

When my car is on for 10-15 minutes (usually when I'm parking) in stalls (the engine shuts off, but the car is still actually on), so I have to start it up again. The engine runs fine, so I'm assuming it is something with one of the fuses, because recently I had a new stereo installed. Every time I start the car the clock resets back to 12:00, also since the stero installation the inside lights only work with the the car on.

General Comments:

This is the first problem in a long time.

Your radio problem is likely due to the radio memory wire being connected to the interior light wire. It is a common mistake made by many people installing their own stereo with the door open which causes the wire to be "hot" when checked. The stalling problem is likely due to a "slow" idle air control motor, also a very common problem.

1990 Mercury Grand Marquis LX 5.0

Faults:

Alternator at 150k miles.

Water pump at 120k miles.

Original exhaust replaced from the convertors back at 150k miles.

Valve cover gaskets replaced at 100k miles.

All repairs were very inexpensive.

General Comments:

I paid $5000 for this car in 1998 and it does not owe me a dime now. I intend to keep it until it decintigrates. Has 152k miles on it now and still looks, runs, and drives excellent - and this is in Buffalo, NY which is quite hard on cars. With regular maintenance these big Fords last and last.

I always look forward to driving this car even if just around the corner to the store. By far the best of the 10 cars I have owned in my life thus far.

OK I got a 1990 mercury marquis too and I'm not kidding it has exactly 152 k miles on it to and I'm north of Pittsburg, PA (1 hour away),and it's in brand new condition the only thing I might need to do is put a new distributer cap on it. It still runs excelent and I have no complaints I really have no complaints about ford I've always had luck with my fords and I will always drive ford!

1990 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 5.0

Summary:

Big luxury liner

Faults:

Just a small problem with the ignition switch, had it replaced for free.

General Comments:

Giant, comfortable, well-equipped car.

Fairly good gas mileage on highways, solid and safe. They don't build cars like this anymore unfortunately, a little tight in mall parking lots.

I have a 1986 Colony Park with 190K miles on the clock. It used to be my daily driver, but I succumbed to the attraction of a late-model car (and the depreciation and insurance premiums that go with it.) I let the big wagon sit for 3 months this winter in NW Indiana. After the winter was over I turned the key just to see what would happen, and it started right up! I have half a mind to sell my '98 and drive this beast till it dies! (I don't care what my girlfriend thinks if she doesn't make my car payment for me!) Seriously, it rides like a Town Car and averages around 21-22 mpg. Not bad for 270 lb.-ft. of Neon, Escort GT, and Civic taillight-showing torque!
