2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 4.6 V8

Summary:

Nice, comfort, with a bad gasket problem

Faults:

When I got the car, I spotted an oil leak on the driver's front side. It turns out it's an intake manifold leak or gasket leak; 600.00 to repair.

What I would like to mention is that the Grand Marquis is notorious for head gasket leaks. Either the oil leaks into the coolant or the coolant leaks into the oil.

So when you buy a grand marquis, check the front driver's side for oil leaks unto the manifold (connections for the exhaust at the motor) or the back passenger side for oil leaks there. It won't be a big leak, but persistent. If not repaired, could result in overheating and ongong power troubles, gas consumption will increase. If still not found and fixed, could lead to a blown engine and total failure.

General Comments:

Other than that, regular maintenance would be a good practice. IE: oil changes, fluid topping, transmission oil check, tire rotations and good dripless under-spray the frame to prevent it from rusting. This car should do 3 to 4000000 kl.

I have a 2000 Grand Marquis. I have never had a gasket problem on mine. That is rare problem, I am sorry that happened.

Yes, I agree, we have had a number of 4.6 powertrains and never had that problem. They've been extremely reliable and good engines except for the intake manifold problem on the I believe 1996-2001 4.6 engines, but for a car like that, that's small potatoes.

Haven't heard of common head gasket problems either. I have heard of several of them cracking at the plastic intake manifold or leaking at the gasket.

Summary:

It is the "KING" of cars

Faults:

Wiper blades, New car smell went away so I had to buy a air freshener! that's about it.

General Comments:

I've always liked big cars! my last one was a '77 Chrysler Newport "loved it" and that was 12 years ago, so I gave the Grand Marquis a chance and would never ever think of getting something else! this car is quick and very comfortable to drive! The other problem I have is people tend to drive slower when I'm around them, more on two lane roads when the speed limit is at 55 mph... well they do exactly 55 mph! because well it does resemble it's brother the crown Vic and we know who drives them! but it is the best car I have ever owned and recommend it to any one of all ages.

2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 4.6L V8

Summary:

Not just for the blue-hairs anymore!

Faults:

Brake pedal makes a low squeaky noise when depressed.

General Comments:

I needed a decent used car under 12k dollars and under 60k miles. All the Camrys, Accords, Grand Prix models were too pricey (for 50-60,000 miles) or didn't have the amenities that I was looking for. And low and behold, I find this gorgeous 2000 MGM with 27k mile4s for a little over $10,000. Some snowbird elderly woman had it in Florida and hadn't barely used it since 2002. I swear the passenger or rear seats have never been sat in. Just sitting in this beauty makes me feel like I got one hell of a steal!

It is like new, and the comfort is excellent! Leather, everything electric, bigger than I could've imagined... finally a car that I don't have to put the seat all the way back! I have a baby on the way, and who says you have to be 60+ years old to own one of these? My new MGM is the perfect family car... I recommend it for those of you tired of the SUV phenomenon. I live in south Florida, so snow isn't a question... what the hell do I need an SUV for? There is more trunk space than the entire back of my Ford Escape.

I love this car!

Bravo! I agree entirely. The Grand Marquis is an excellent car, and you don't have to be a senior citizen to appreciate the many good points to this road cruiser that is just one step below the Lincoln Town Car itself. Cars like the Grand Marquis are roomy, comfortable and safe, and can carry as many people and as much luggage as almost any SUV.

I don't understand the perception some people have that big cars are boring, only liked by the elderly, and are too large and old-fashioned to be competitive in today's auto market. You can't get more boring than most Japanese imports. As a big fan of big, V8-powered American cars, I don't understand the idea that these cars are obsolete. How can they be, when the even more monstrous SUV's are even bigger, bulkier and far more dangerous and less efficient. Tradition and practicality should always be placed above image when it comes to any vehicle this size, and the Grand Marquis offers both in a superb package.

I agree with both of you gentlemen.

I have a '99 grand marquis fully loaded with 370,000 miles.

It runs like new!

I'm 19 not 65 and I get a lot of compliments from the ladies in my age group.

I never want to own another vehicle!

Long live Grand Marquis!!!
