1998 Mercury Tracer LS Sport 2.0 Single Overhead Cam

Summary:

A well-built car that is often overlooked

Faults:

Fuel gauge was nonoperational when purchased.

General Comments:

I have now had my Mercury Tracer LS Sport for nearly a year, and it has given me no trouble whatsoever.

If you have the problem with the fuel gauge always reading Empty, make sure you take the car to an actual Ford/Lincoln/Mercury mechanic. They know what the problem is, and will actually fix your car instead of keeping it for a month and charging you labor for time they are not working on the car.

This car is very solid, and a pleasure to drive.

The engine runs well even at high rpm, and the suspension is very forgiving.

This car is surprisingly quick, and can out accelerate many other cars on the road, possibly due to the amount of low-end torque the engine has.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
