1999 Mercury Tracer

Summary:

Great new driver's car. It's small and compact. I love it!!!

Faults:

The only thing I really don't like about this car is that it idles really high.

This car has been wrecked like 4 times and you can't really tell.

I really haven't had to replace anything on the car but for the battery.

General Comments:

For something that my insurance company calls a throw away car, it has held up.

I love this car. It is really good on gas. On one tank of gas I can get 300 miles. It does only hold 12 gallons.

This is a great teenager car. I got this car from my grandma when she passed away. Before that I had a Grand Prix. That was junk.

1999 Mercury Tracer LX 2.0 Lts.

Summary:

Great Buy! :)

Faults:

Left Rear Strut Spring Broken

Rear Tag Light Bulb

Emergency Brake Lever Arm Rusted & Not Releasing

Tie Rod End.

General Comments:

This car is very reliable and economical. I get about 32 mpg combined (highway and city) and I have been able to get 37 mpg in highway. Repairs have not been very costly. The only thing that is not working on my car is the tape player, but that is not a big concern.

My car has cruise control, and remote key entry that includes the opening of the trunk. I find this to be very neat because some more expensive cars do not have that feature.

The engine is noisy, and there is a great amount of rattling when the car idles. The seats are not very comfortable and I do not find the sound system to be that exciting either.

I change the oil in my car every 3,000 miles and I make sure that all the fluids are full. I am also trying to be more aware about the routine checkups that are on the manual. I feel that for the price I got a really good deal.

1999 Mercury Tracer LS 2.0L I-4

Summary:

Excellent car for the money!

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong with this car is that the tape deck quit working a couple of months ago. Other than that, the car has been trouble free.

General Comments:

This has been the best car I've ever owned. I've had it for over three years and have put over 50,000 miles on it, and it has never let me down!

The car has surprisingly good pickup for a 110-hp, 4-cylinder engine.

It is suggested to replace the timing belt after 75,000 miles, but mine had 89,000 on it before I got it replaced. The old belt never broke, this was just maintenance.

By the manual, it says to check the timing belt at 120,000 miles. So changing it at 75,000 is a little soon. I know cause I asked a mechanic (that I actually trust).

Cheers.

Timing belt is suggested at 120K for a Mercury Tracer. You so were in the safe zone. Good job.

1999 Mercury Tracer LS

Summary:

Has manufacturers defects, uncomfortable, but good on gas.

Faults:

With in 3 days of having the car, I found the hinges on the seats rusted. Response from the dealer was not under the warranty. Was rusted when I bought the car with only 15 miles on the car.

Trunk sweat very badly, possibly due to the trunk liner. when removed problem subsided.

Door seals have been loose since I had the car and leaks around the doors.

The air and heat had a mold in the vents when I bought the car and dealer did not fix or treat and was suppose too. This caused a burning sensation to the eyes.

Within two years had problems with head lights not working properly. with in 3 years I had to have one replace due to the plastic on the unit melting. I am having the same problem again. The unit is melting. This seems to be a manufacturers defect to keep happening and is very expensive to replace.

General Comments:

The car has operated motor wise as long as oil is changed regularly every 3,000 miles. Don't go much over that or the gas mileage goes down.

Little leg room the way the the console is made.

Not recommended for someone with back problems. Seats are not very comfortable especially on long trips.

Cup holders do not allow room for anything much over a 12 can of drink and not deep enough to keep drinks from turning over.

Seats are too low.
