1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS

Summary:

I wish I bought a bike instead

Faults:

I Needed to replace the fuel-pump, it died out completely. The parts for it were rather expensive. I payed, around 700 dollars to get it fixed. The check engine light just randomly turned on for no reason, still haven't been able to figure out why. It still has the factory muffler, it rattles really badly. I was told it wasn't burning oil, but somehow it is. The hatch in the back, leaks down when I open it, after a rain storm, ruining the speakers. Gas mileage is crappy, despite, I use the Octane Booster and Fuel-Injector Clean, every time I fill up, and I just the highest octane gas available.

General Comments:

I love my eclipse, I love it to death. It's cute looking, but I would never buy a used one ever again. I spend way to much money for it. This was my first car, I ever owned. I now wish I bought a bike.

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 4 cylinder DOHC

Summary:

For my driving fast driving style, the car is reliable and has taken a beating and kept on ticking

Faults:

The oddest thing that I have replaced on this car are the door handles and the back hatch release grippers. The passenger door handle went first. Then about three weeks later the driver door handle broke off in my hand. And because the back hatch often got stuck, it took a while for me to break into my own car. This ended up being a $450 dollar repair.

The brakes were recalled.

General Comments:

I drive extremely fast and put on roughly 100 miles a day. The car has kept up with that pace since day one.

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST 2.0 dual over head turbo

Summary:

This car is the best car ever

Faults:

The very first thing that went wrong was the transmission. I only had the car for two days and it went, so I had to wait to find one. Everywhere I called, it was like $1,200-$1,900. So finally I got one from ASAP Motors for 940.00 with only 60 miles on it. Other than that, it's the best car I could have gotten.

General Comments:

I did a lot of upgrades to it. I put racing seats in it, new stereo unit, new rims, dropped it 2.5 inches, bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors, too much to list. I now know that I run in the quarter mile low 10s. So I'm very impressed with it, and I wouldn't get rid of it for anything in the world.

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS 2.4

Summary:

One of the worst cars in production

Faults:

What can I say... theres quite a list here.. lets start with the transmission... the overdrive gear went at about 65000 miles and the car now tops out at around 70 mph... next is the convertible top... it leaks...a lot and also the bars went on in... about 500 to have that replaced.. the motors for the top are both blown... the radio has died too many time to count... the leather seats are rough..

General Comments:

This car is bad news... go with a Mazda or Toyota if your looking for reliability... the car looks cool, but it stops right there..

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0 Non turbo

Summary:

A high performance, reliable vehicle

Faults:

Since I got the car, the only thing that has gone wrong was the Oxygen Sensor, that was causing the "Check Engine" light to come up. Which at the dealer was priced at around 200.00 Dollars. But I did a lot of research on the Internet, and found an aftermarket Oxygen Sensor for under 50.00 Dollars. I love the high quality, and performance, of aftermarket parts. Since then, I only replace my cars components with aftermarket products. Much of them are more reliable and dependable than stock parts, not speaking about comparing the prices. Other than the Oxygen Sensor, nothing has gone wrong.

These cars are recommended that the Timing Belt is changed at every 60,000 miles. I know that the other previous owner had changed it before, but my interval has now about reached its point. So I'm now thinking of changing or better yet "Upgrading" my Timing Belt. I found one that cost's about 120.00 dollars, but it is made out of Kevlar materials which is known to last up to three times more than stock belts. These Kevlar belts are first to top performance. Plus, they "stretch" less under high engine stress and high accelerations.

General Comments:

I've found these cars to be very reliable, and they will take good care of you on the road, if you take good care of them as well.

The looks on these vehicles are very aggressive.
