1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX turbo I-4

Summary:

A Great Performance Car!

Faults:

Nothing except maybe going to fast, when you do go to fast though, the car shakes a little bit.

General Comments:

This car is great. I always wanted one and finally got one. The 4WD gives it great control at high speeds. I finally got this baby over 350 Horsepower. It Really flys and I love it.

YEA I'm looking for a 99 gsx and was wondering where I could find one in southeastern wisconsin?

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0 DOHC

Summary:

A high performance dream that begs to be driven fast and shown off

Faults:

When the windows are down, the glass rattles. More so on the passenger side than the driver side. Only significantly noticeable when closing the door.

The rear tires wore irregularly after a 800 mile trip with approximately 600 pounds of weight in the back of the vehicle. This caused a blowout on the highway. On the positive side, the car easily maintained control even with the blown tire.

The windows leak when going through the car wash. The drivers side window will not leak if you open and close the window after the door is closed. The passenger side will not leak if you open and close the door with the window up. Rather unusual if you ask me.

General Comments:

The front end scrapes everything and needs to be replaced now (mostly due to it being lowered).

The car's performance is excellent. When cornering a 90 degree turn (posted at 15 miles per hour) at approximately 50 miles per hour, the car maintained traction.

The car has a great sound system. I have the stock Compact Disc/Tape deck, and the stock 6 speaker system. It sounds great all the way up with only minor distortion.

I have the large spoiler on the back. A sunroof, and the stock body effects, and the car is always turning heads.

The car is great for 2 passengers, OK for 4. The front seats are heavenly comfortable for a performance sports car, and the back seats are rather cushy, unfortunately kind of small.

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Non turbo

Faults:

My GS had some minor suspension problems after hitting a mild bump in the road at about 35000 miles. No big deal even though I had gone through much worse in my old 88 Trans Am.

My most recent problem is that my engine threw a rod and the car only has 45,000 miles. I suspected that I would be backed by the 60,000 warranty, but I got shafted on that one. Now the car is sitting at at my mechanic's because I can't pay the car note, insurance, and a $5000 bill for a new engine.

Thanks Mitsubishi!!!

Well... considering you have a GS model... Mitsubishi didn't build the motor. You have a 420a Chrysler engine. Thank them for that.. not Mitsu. My eclipse is a 97 GS with 105,000 miles on it (manual tranny), and it still runs great. Just bad luck I guess.

The 420a is generally a pretty strong engine, weird that you had such bad luck. Usually the only problem encountered with the 420a is a bad head gasket.

The head gasket is an ongoing and expensive problem with the 420A. I'm currently hunting a replacement engine for my 97 Eclipse GS since my crank is jacked and warped beyond recovery.

Outside of this problem, it's been a ton of fun driving it (even though it's been over a year since I last ran the car).

The 420A has a strong block. you have to tear out your motor and build it up to take what you give it. mine has 440hp the only thing stock in the motor is the crank and the cams.

Listen, you need to understand that a 420a engine is only in a rs eclipse. The engine in your gs would be the 4g63. Now the difference is a 420a is a Chrysler engine, it's mounted in the opposite direction then the 420a. A 420a engine is in the rs eclipse. If it's a replacement you're looking for it will be around $1,000 for the engine itself.

I just got a 1995 Eclipse GS and I need a 420a engine. Can somebody help me find a website to buy from?

I would be very grateful.

Thanks.
