1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder 2.4

Summary:

I love my Mitsubishi!

Faults:

The valves/lashes started tapping at 51k miles (which were supposed to be adjusted at 50k), I was unaware of this and had to have all 16 lashes replaced. Luckily it was all covered under warranty (freebie).

The top is leaky, but well worth it in the summer.

Mitsubishi decal, located on trunk, completely came off with light washing. And new stickers can't be bought in local auto stores.

Alarm has gone psycho quite a few times, only when top is down and doors are locked.

Cigarette light shorts out.

Driver side door speaker crackles.

A small gas tank causes frequent stops for gas.

General Comments:

Excellent bottom end acceleration.

Mid-range torque could be better.

At high speeds, it rides really smooth.

Back seat and trunk are small.

Car has a nice sleek look that grabs your eye.

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST convertible turbo

Summary:

A sexy eye catching speedster!

Faults:

The Convertible top leaks a little when raining heavily.

When opening the convertible top, occasionally it might get stuck to the rear seats' plastic panel.

General Comments:

The Mitsubishi Eclipse GST is a very fast vehicle. It is one of the best handling convertible on the road today. The body feel very rigid. The car sticks to the road like it is on rails. You driving confidence will grow when you drive this car. It is really a very fun car to drive. Very generous power with that peppy turbo charge engine. A very smooth shifting stick shift. However, the car obviously is not design for long road trip. The leather seat feel very tough and harsh. It is not a comfortable car for long road trip. The convertible roof leaks a little. The stitching of the convertible top is starting to get loose. I used some epoxies to seal the leak, it was working fine afterward. Sometimes the convertible top get caught to the rear seats' plastic panels. Other than that, the car is great! A very sharp fun ride!

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 2.0L gasoline

Summary:

Looks good, low performance

Faults:

The car has be relatively problem free after I purchased it. But It did come with a couple of problems: the doors leak some kind of black rubbery fluid, which becomes worse in summer. The windows rattle in the doors. The car does not do well in wet weather or fast cornering. On one occasion, I spun twice while taking a turn fast. No ABS or traction control.

General Comments:

The car looks good, but is a low performance machine. Ideal for making mods, say by adding a new exhaust or air-intake system and larger tires.

So far, the only mod I've made is to install a K&N filter, which did improve gas mileage.

Well my name is chris and I own a 1999 eclipse rs I like the car and you are right about the cornering, but do you know why when I turn sharp sometimes the car shuts off? and I would like to add that the strut tower bars make a big improvement on handling even with stock tires and rims.

I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 5 speed. The engine has an oil leak. The seals were changed, but it did not solve the problem. I've been told that Mitsubishi's had the problem since the 93 model and up.

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.0

Summary:

A lousy lemon!

Faults:

First of many things wrong with this car. Both doors (Driver and passenger) have started to leak black tar out, the sunroof quit working and will not go all the way down, my power antenna is screwed up, I've had to replace my transmission sensor twice in 1 1/2 years.. Needless to say I will never buy another Mitsubishi vehicle again.. In case anyone was wondering, I parked the car in the garage and took care of the car, so its not like it was abused.
