2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 2.4 mivec 4 cylinder

Summary:

Even though me and the car aren't in love yet, there is definitely some sexual tension in the air..

Faults:

Not a Damn thing, except the fact that somebody hit it in the side the fourth day that I've owned it. One of my rims was scuffed on the surface as well, but I probably would not be suprised if it were due to my own negligence.

General Comments:

To the previous guy who wrote a review on the 2006, I think you are a little bit out of line mentioning that this car is not good for having a child in the rear seat. It's a sports coupe, duhh.

This car will never be as sexy on the exterior as a Mitsubishi 3000GT (which were discontinued in 2000), but this girl (the car) has it's own style and a body that has pleasantly matured over the years.

Red is the color I selected for her to wear, and she does so very elgantly whether it's a daily commute for work, or a late night cruise through the Red Light District here in the Nation's Capital.

I have the GS version, so that means no sunroof, no 650 watt RockFord Fostgate system, no digital compass, no V6 Engine, etc. Even though there are no fancy features on mine, she still came equipped with a slap-stick 4- gear automatic transmission, and a MP3 Player. Many people who are not very tech-savvy may say: "who cares about a

MP3 player". The difference is, that over 150 songs can be stored on one-disc which enhances the music listening experience greatly, especially on long travel.

Before I took her home, I went looking at many other cars in higher classes, such as the Lexus SC430, the Mercedes SL500, and the Chevrelet Corvette (all pre-owned of course), but in the end, there was no comparison.

I don't want to ramble on and on about the car, I mean after all it's only an Eclipse right? But honestly, this car is defintely the nighest one that I've ever owned, and I am looking to to make this relationship meaningful and long lasting.

Back in 2001 I bought a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL with 100,000 miles on it. It was faster, sexier, sportier, and definitely turned more heads than my Eclipse. Sometime people even mistook it for a Ferrari (the 3000GT) if they were looking at it from the side. However, the maintenance was an absolute night-mare, especially if you were a street racer like me. The engine blew up (the rods bent) and the car was put to sleep. (R.I.P baby)

My Eclipse will never be mistaken for Ferrari in a million years. But it is practically still new with a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty, gets aout 25 miles a gallon, has sexy ice blue illuminated interior, and is sexy enough... even though I've had sexier. She's like the girl who just turned 18 and is still innocent for the time being, but may not be anymore after the night is over.

Thanks so much for reading, and if you decide to get one... go for the red, orange or black - these colors fit the body perfectly.

-Peace.

I desperately wanted a 2006/07 eclipse for the last couple of years, since I first saw it.

I finally went to test drive one recently, expecting to want it, and buy it immediately, but instead I was horribly disappointed.

First, the dealer lied to me to get me into the dealership. I wanted a V6 with manual transmission (just to test the feel of it - I'd actually want the premium package on the one I bought, but I just wanted to feel the handling and power with the correct engine/transmission).

Anyway, yeah, he lied, and didn't really have one. He had hundreds of GS models, and loads of V6 with automatic... so he talked me into trying the GS manual.. he said "I think you'll be surprised by the performance".

Well I was surprised.. in a very bad way. It reminded me of a large truck I'd once driven.. heavy, with an incredibly underpowered engine. Just pulling away from the dealership, the engine ROARED, but the car moved like a snail. I turned onto a curvy highway entrance ramp, and the soft suspension let the car roll hard to the side... (certainly not living up to the excellent sporty looks).

I was so disappointed that the car I'd focused all my attention on for so long was so bad.

Of course - this was the 4 cylinder; I wanted the V6. I gave the dealer a chance to "find" this "missing" V6 manual that he "definitely had in stock somewhere".

He didn't find it, so I tried a V6 automatic, just to feel the engine.

The V6 made an amazing different to the feel of the car. It no longer felt like a truck, it felt quick and responsive. Despite being even heavier, it actually felt light because of that V6 responsiveness.

However, the suspension/handling was not much better (it was supposed to be better on the GT) and I HATED the automatic transmission, which may have added to my bad perception of this car (unfortunately the dealer didn't understand how much I hate automatic transmissions... I once just sat in a 350z with automatic trans. at a car show, and it put me off that car totally, just because it even has an auto transmission available.)

So anyway... I would still love to try a V6 manual, I doubt I'd buy it, but it may at least slightly restore my faith in Mitsubishi. It's hard to accept that a car I desperately wanted for so long has let me down so badly.

Just stiffen up the suspension a little Mitsubishi, and you'll have a great car... Oh, make some more V6 manuals available too; some people actually like to drive their cars themselves.

Yup I just got my 2007 eclipse gt manual two months ago (my first car) and the local girls just can't stay away from it.

The Eclipse are fast, sexy and comfortable, but have terrible brakes and feel heavy. I was going to buy one, but I end up buying a Rav4 instead.

Eclipse vs. Rav4... I don't get it. "I ordered pizza, but the hot-dog will do"!!

Aftermarket high performance brakes solve this issue.

"I once just sat in a 350z with automatic trans. at a car show, and it put me off that car totally, just because it even has an auto transmission available."

Gee, what car doesn't have an AT available? You are stuck with a Viper, or maybe a Z06 Corvette... It gets pretty expensive if you want manual exclusive cars these days. Everyone is more interested in yakking on the phone and cranking the stereo with their bottle of water in hand, than shifting a car.

Yeah, even the Honda NSX with one of the greatest manual transmissions ever was available with a 4-speed auto.

2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder 3.8 MIVEC V6

Summary:

Meh, it's okay I guess

Faults:

1450 miles? If something went wrong, I'd be very angry.

General Comments:

I have mixed feelings about this car. Some things are great, and others, not so great.

The Rockford Fosgate system rocks! Nice woofer in the backseat. Yeah, it's in the backseat. It doubles up as a massage chair when it's turned up. The backseats though are pretty useless. My 5 year old boy can sit there, but I wouldn't fit back there at all. I don't know what adult can.

Fuel consumption is terrible. If I peak 20 MPG, I'm very happy. Low teens seems like the norm for me. I blame the enormous V6 that this thing has in it.

263 hp is NOT ENOUGH for this 4000 lb beast. Why so heavy? Why?

The exhaust system is a work of art. So pretty, ahh... You'll have to listen to one.

Well, $35K? I don't think it was worth it, but I'd definitely look at another Mitsubishi next time I shop. The build quality of this car is superb and very nicely finished. I just hope I grow to like this thing a little more over the next while.

Cars aren't like arranged marriages - you don't grow to love them over time if you dislike them now.

You're really going to hate this car once the warranty is up and you have to pay for repairs yourself.

My advice is to trade it in on something you really like, especially if you're paying such a high price for it.

With all the variety offered North American car buyers, there is little reason to settle for anything less than what you want.
