1998 Mitsubishi Galant

Summary:

Great car!!!

Faults:

This is a GREAT car!!!

General Comments:

My car was a 1998 and it was such a great car! It had 176,000 miles on it and it just gave out the other day! I drove an hour to and from work 4 days a week and it was such a trooper! As long as you keep up with the oil changes and things, it's great!!

I find it hard to believe that my little 1998 car made it so long, but it did! I would definitely tell anyone to buy one! They are not the most popular car, but they are great... and cheap! They are very roomy and have a lot of space to put your things! I think I paid $4,000 for mine! It also did well in the rain/snow, which was a HUGE plus for me! Check it out if you're looking for a new car!!

1998 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cylinder

Summary:

Dangerous

Faults:

Harmonic balancer came apart.

Besides other problems.

The worst was in a parking lot; the lower ball joint let go, causing a bent upper control arm, a bent strut, bent steering knuckle, bent knee. The tire went back into the rear of the wheel well, denting the fender, crushing the rocker panel, and jamming the driver's door shut. Also the axle was pulled out of the transmission.

The car had just passed inspection last month. Apparently this car hides its ball joint damage.

Got lucky I wasn't on the highway.

General Comments:

A lot of expensive things have happened to this car. Now it is dangerous.

Ball joints do not last forever. They are a normal wear item like tires. A ball joint that worn would have been making a knocking noise and shown excessive inside tire wear, as well as some front end vibration. You just failed to keep up with the service. I find it unbelievable that people think cars should last forever without any service other than oil.
