1995 Mitsubishi Mirage

Summary:

I hate it

Faults:

I bought this Mirage in 2001 with 141,000 miles on it from a dealer I was told I could trust. I was going to buy a 1991 Acura Legend with 180K on it for a higher price than the Mirage that day, but this dealer talked me into the Mitsubishi. I had a Dodge Colt once, built by Mitsubishi, and it was a great car, so I let him talk me into it.

He sold me an extended warranty on the car for 2 years or 20,000 miles, and said he would have any part of the drive train replaced if it went bad within the warranty period.

The car must have been beaten, because I drove it from Missouri to California, and the tranny went out on it when I got there. I told him I was going to Cali with it, and he said if it gave a problem, he would pay to have it fixed. Well, $1400 for a transmission, and he couldn't cover it. He accepted my first call with the complaint, and said he'd look into having it fixed, then he refused all my other calls.. I had to abandon the car because I didn't have the 1400 to fix it. I sued him and got my warranty money back, but that was only $300. I don't know if it was beaten or not, but I only know it left me stranded 2100 miles from home, and I will never buy a Mitsubishi product again.

I wish I had bought the Acura instead.

General Comments:

This car was very slow in taking off. It was your basic vehicle with no cruise in it. Not good for long drives.

1995 Mitsubishi Mirage LS

Summary:

Great fun car!

Faults:

Nothing went wrong with the car. Only normal maintenance required.

General Comments:

Great car! Very reliable and sporty.

I had the car for six years, 70K miles, no problems. I sold it to my Dad. He's had for 2 1/2 years, no problems. Simply normal maintenance done.

This car has over 150K miles on it today, and never any major work. Interior and exterior look great for age! I wish I hadn't sold it to my dad.

1995 Mitsubishi Mirage S 1.3

Summary:

A Beastly Beater

Faults:

Minimal wear and tear including tires (which since they are so small, they were really inexpensive.) and breaks, which they too were inexpensive.

The distributer went at 123,000 miles, and that cost $600 to fix. Through out the whole life of the car that was the ONLY major thing that ever went wrong.

It eats oil like crazy and runs out of it frequently; the passenger seat belt is a pain, but I never sit over there anyway.

It has no cup holders and NO DELAYED WIPERS- that is the only thing that drove me crazy about the car.

In any weather below 55 degrees it would not warm up, but that was easily fixed by putting a piece of cardboard infront of the radiator.

General Comments:

I loved this car!!! It truly was a warrior. On June 1, 2004 it was in a terrible accident that totaled it, but it handled like a tank. I was going 40mph and a mini school bus cut me off in the pouring rain, he was making a left. My car slammed right into the drivers door of the bus and did pretty good damage to it- it plowed it right out of the lane! (p.s. no kids on board) Anyway, the radiator was on top of the engine and it was still running with the whole front end bashed in. My fiance walked away with only a bruise or 2. Talk about safe!

For all the times the oil has run out it never really complained, even for how much I beat on it. I was always amazed by how it NEVER stalled.

In all of the years that I had it it only broke down once, and that was because of the distributer. One time it did not get an oil change for 2 years and it still ran really great. For a small enging it has great pick up and can handle 80 without too much of a problem for extended time. I will miss that car forever, it was my first. I wish that I still had it, it had dependability and safety like no other.

I too owned a mirage as my first car. And, just like you, I also got into a major accident with it. I was driving down a gravel road, and came over a hill to find another car in the middle of this gravel, two lane at best, road. So like any human, I swerved, and stomped the brakes. The car slid, did a 180, slid backwards off a rather large ditch, and hit the rear end with a telephone pole.

The amazing thing was, it was still on, and running. I was amazed at how it didn't roll even when 2 of the tires were airborne over the ditch. And then on top of it all, I drove it away from the pole to keep the pole from falling on it. The whole trunk was in the backseat, and it still drove with no problem :) I destroyed the pole. It snapped at about 6 feet above the ground. The pole moved in the ground about a foot. I was only doing about 40-45. The only reason they totaled that car, was because of the single frame design that would cost several hundred dollars to fix.

An amazing car. With a simple no-cat exhaust system, cold-air intake, and small modifications to the timing, this car pushed 150hp. Easily beating anything I ever met off the line and to the next stoplight.

And like every other mirage owner, I would give almost anything to have it back.

1995 Mitsubishi Mirage S

Summary:

A reliable, economical, fun car

Faults:

The air conditioner has gone out several times.

The airbag system broke, but the dealer fixed it for free with no damage done.

After 8 years, the upholstery is falling apart.

The transmission needs to be flushed too often.

The passenger side seat belt is difficult to work.

General Comments:

This is a wonderful car. It drives smoothly, runs reliably, gets amazing gas mileage (nearly 40 mpg on the road), is cute, fits nicely into small spaces, yet has plenty of room for passengers, has everything you need in a car without lots of fancy bells and whistles... I want to drive it forever!

1995 Mitsubishi Mirage LS Coupe 1.8

Summary:

Some high performance and some economy car!

Faults:

Nothing and no problem at all.

It has very good quality. Well as you know Japanese is!

General Comments:

Mitsubishi Mirage LS Coupe is an excellent quality car and its performance is fine! Its gas mileage is excellent - 32 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. I can afford it!

However the driver's seat is not great, but important - drive it a lot of miles and it's excellent to travel in.

It's a look alike sport small economy car, but it has a 1.8 Litre SOHC 16 valve 4 cylinder - half sport and economy car!
