Summary:
Overall one of the best SUVs ever made
Faults:
Nothing other than the usual maintenance/wear items.
Has been rock-solid reliable, never left me stranded.
General Comments:
I love how reliable this vehicle has been. And at 137,000 miles, it still runs as quiet as when new.
With the 4 cyl. engine and 5-speed manual, gas mileage is great for a vehicle of this size.
The only downside and my only complaint about this truck is the lack of power going up hills, which is to be expected when a 4 cyl. is in a vehicle that weighs 4,000 lbs.
Overall, a very reliable and solid vehicle that I have owned for 12 years, and will probably have for at least 12 more. I have no doubt this truck will last at least 300K miles.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Original poster here. "Ol' Reliable" my 1998 Montero Sport is being driven every day now whilst my 2003 Honda Element sits waiting to have the drivers' side power window motor fixed (can't roll window back up). Whilst my Honda isn't so bad, I think the old Mitsubishi IS better and more reliable.
Probably will still have my old Mitsubishi long after the Honda is gone.

Original poster here again. 146,500 miles and still doing well. Had to replace the radiator and drive belt, but these things are to be expected on a 13 yr. old vehicle, and are normal wear and tear items. Drove this on a trip from Los Angeles to Laughlin NV last month. Still runs like new, and A/C still blows ice cold.
