1993 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4L unleaded

Summary:

A good value. Don't pay more than blue book

Faults:

1. Fuel injector replaced at 50k.

2. Starter replaced at 100k, and then again at 120k because I bought a junkyard special the first time around.

3. Gas mileage sometimes is marginal, but sometimes very good.

4. Frame rail at front engine mount was replaced because the steel was rotting out. It was rotting out because of a battery acid spill about 8 months prior. I cleaned out the engine bay as best I could, but I guess I missed a spot. Cost me ~ $500.

5. Some backlash in the drivetrain. I think it's from the transmission. It has gotten worse with time, but that's expected. The shock impact will cause the transmission / CV joints / etc to fail prematurely. As of now, I just drive it very carefully.

General Comments:

Great car if you maintain it.

Starts in subzero temperatures, though sometimes it fights a little.

KA24DE provides decent power @ 150 hp.

Gas mileage is somewhat of a problem with this model. I've concluded a few reasons why:

1. I've noticed that the calipers are a little sticky - moreso than other cars. Sticky calipers cut down on gas mileage.

2. 5th gear isn't geared very favorable for fuel efficiency. I should say the design speed of the engine could probably have been better optimized for gas mileage while sacrificing some torque.

3. Cruise control tends to drift or oscillate above and below set speed.

4. Gas mileage hits a "wall" at driving speeds over about 65 mph.

Overall, this car has been very reliable, though regular maint. should be done.

1993 Nissan Altima GLE 2.4 Liter

Summary:

I Love It!

Faults:

I have only had this car for a few months and so far the only thing that needs replacing are the factory radio and speakers and the ignition. I have to turn the key back from the on point so the electrical stuff comes on. Other than that she has been a great car.

General Comments:

My first car was a 1990 Geo Prizm, and it was pretty plan in terms of amenities. Plus my brake lights would stop working for no reason. So I looked into getting something new and found my Altima. The GLE is the top of the line and with all it comes with I can see why it is what it is. HUD, 2 way moon-roof, Bose system, Electronic Climate Control. Its the best.

I think he meant new as in new to him.

I don't think first generation Altima was equipped with Bose; never saw that. It did have a good audio system on the SE and GLE models; the Maxima and Infiniti Luxury Division around that era had BOSE sound; not the first gen Altima; it wasn't equipped until 2002; standard on all models after that.

1993 Nissan Altima GLE

Summary:

A quality used car

Faults:

The rear window recently blew out while traveling on the highway.

The seat belt chime starts chiming when a turn is made and at other times of it's choosing.

The starter went out, and it's replacement, though expensive, is not much better.

The Power antenna only partially retracts, though it did fully retract when the battery was disconnected and then reinstalled.

General Comments:

This car handles very nicely.

I love the GLE package.

The leather seats are very comfortable and classy.

With the exception of the antenna and the seat belt chime, all the bells and whistles still work.

The gunmetal grey that came out this year is very nice.

1993 Nissan Altima GLE

Summary:

A few faults, but overall, a nice car.

Faults:

Air conditioning stopped working 8 months after I bought the car.

Antenna is quirky and ninety percent of the time won't go up or down without assistance.

When the outside temperature is below 65 degrees, heads up display does not light up. Depending on how cold it is determines the time for the display to appear. (Anywhere from 5-20 minutes)

Speedometer is approximately 3-4 miles slow.

Seatbelt light/audible ding goes off without warning or reason.

Alternator had to be replaced in 2002.

General Comments:

Despite these minor problems, it has been a fairly reliable car.

It handles nicely and the next vehicle I buy will most likely be another Nissan.

It is the best car I have ever driven.

The alternator seems to be a major problem with this vehicle. if you have to buy one please buy NEW not rebuilt.

Be sure to check your battery every year otherwise your alternator will blow, I've been through 2 in the past year.

The window switch defects and the front speakers going in and out might have something to do with it.
