I live in CT and drive up to VT to ski, so I'm used to driving in not so ideal conditions in the winter. I had a 2000 Altima SE. The original tires on this car were horrible for rain and terrible for snow conditions. Bought new tires ($70each) for the front and it drove much better in the rain and snow.

I owned the car for 4 years. Bought a wagon for the family to replace it. I only had about 45k on the car when I turned it in, but I never had a problem with it. Don't know if I'd buy another. I may try a Maxima.

2000 Nissan Altima GXE 2.5

Summary:

A huge bargain

General Comments:

I really love this car and would love to have a new Altima some day.

I have 60,000 miles on her and she is still running like a champ with NO problems at all.

I have been so impressed with this Altima that when I'm ready to buy again I will probably get another one.

There is plenty of room, front and back, with large trunk space. Everyone comments about the comfortable seats and the nice ride. I just have no regrets about buying my car. I'm still in love.

2000 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 liter

Summary:

Decent sober transportation

Faults:

The car began to wear the front tires around 30000 miles and required an alignment.

It always had a coarse vibration which was never corrected.

General Comments:

Not a bad car, but a long way from a great one.

My previous car was an absolutely bulletproof 1987 Stanza and it sold me on Nissan quality, but the Altima just never lived up to my expectations. It could be because of the automatic transmission or maybe the fact that it was white. Somehow it just never developed any "soul".

The engine rattled until it warmed up which I always figured was valvetrain noise or wrist-pin knock. When it did warm up it always seemed to lack power. Four bangers and slush-box autos do not make for a lot of driving excitement.

It always had driveability problems like road vibration and tire wear plus an annoying plastic-sounding clunk each time it hit a bump. This I attributed to the cheesy hubcaps.

The last straw was when the temp gauge began wandering towards "hot" then darted to "cold" without any other signs of running hot.

Not much to add about exterior styling except to describe it as "egglike" and "Bland-O-Rama".

The interior was tolerable with everything about where you would expect it plus it had a really nice sounding radio/CD player.

2000 Nissan Altima GXE 4 cylinder

Summary:

The car is incredibly fun to drive and own!

Faults:

Front headlights form condensation after rain or snow.

Front bumper starting to peel paint.

When car is cold, a rattling sound is heard in engine, but goes away after car is warmed up.

General Comments:

The Nissan Altima is a wonderful car, and would consider buying a new one except I can't bear to part with this one.

2000 Nissan Altima 2.4

Summary:

Very nice car

Faults:

The oxygen sensor failed at 20000 miles.

General Comments:

This car drives and handles really well.

Also seems to be built well and designed for safety. My wife ran over a 4 inch by 4 inch piece of steel that fell off a truck in front of her. The front and rear tires on the passenger side instantly blew out when she hit the steel. The car did not even swerve, but remained under full control till she was able to pull to the side of the road. She was going about 55 mph when she hit the steel.

Not as comfortable and quite inside as I would expect for a new car.

Easy to work on for the do it yourself mechanics out there who like to fix there own vehicles instead of bringing them to the shop.
