2002 Nissan Altima

Summary:

It is GARBAGE!

Faults:

The first bad thing that went wrong with my car after only having the car a few months is the entire wire harness system had to be replaced (covered under my extended warranty).

Then, I needed a new radiator system, a new entire heating and air condition system; total cost 1,800.00 dollars, and of course like all the other problems I've been reading about, is I had to replace 2 sensors and the catalytic converter.

I have had to put over 1,000.00 dollars into this Altima every year, or twice a year for the past 3 years. I've fallen behind on my car payments trying to keep the car running, and now I'm so far behind I can't trade it in or afford to pay it off.

How do we get a Class Action Suit going. We need one now. My sister has the same exact problem with hers. Hoffman Estates, IL.

General Comments:

I can't believe nothings been done. All of the 2002 Nissan Altima's should have been recalled. I called Nissan Corporate to tell them about my situation and they did nothing to help.

I agree - have the same problems.

2002 Nissan Altima 2.5

Summary:

Lemon!!!

Faults:

My gas door will not open. I have to, also, pry it open, in order to get it open. I usually have to have someone in the car with me to pull the lever, while I am outside of the car, prying it open at the same time.

My engine light is also on. I have no idea why!

The car is an 2002, with 45,000 miles on it only. I am sick and tired of all the recalls too.

I long ago figured this car is a lemon! Upon reading all of these reviews I am getting rid of this "piece of junk", and vow never to buy Nissan again!

2002 Nissan Altima SL 2.5L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Reliable, but apparently on a precise "planned obsolescence"

Faults:

Rattle under the hood, which has been there for 60,000 miles. I have repeatedly brought it up as problematic, but technicians were unable to determine cause or fix it.

Irregular idling has begun happening the past month. When I took it in, they discovered a component was missing and replaced it. It has gotten progressively worse over the past few weeks. Then "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I took it in the next morning. The diagnosis came back that my head gasket was blown at just 76,000 miles! A mere 1,000 miles past my extended warranty --- naturally. Everyone I have talked to about this is shocked that a car with only 76,000 miles can have a blown head gasket.

Took it in because heater fan would come on but blow cold air. They didn't check for coolant level, because they said it was likely in the switching mechanism of the fan. Returned vehicle without conclusion.

General Comments:

I have enjoyed driving this car until recently. It has been in the shop almost every week for the past month. It has gone from reliable to unreliable; from inexpensive to maintain to ridiculously expensive to maintain.

Right now, with the head gasket situation pending and the number of recalls that were issued against this car, I would definitely not buy another Nissan (this is my third one). I've had Hondas, Nissans, and Plymouths. Probably purchase a Toyota next time.

At the time of purchase, I thought it was a beautiful vehicle and I was impressed with what I had read about it. It had just garnered the North American Car of the Year award.

2002 Nissan Altima S 2.5

Summary:

The car sucks!!!

Faults:

The engine light has come on many times. Shut off while I was driving on the freeway several times. Took to the dealer ship for a recall and oil change; they told me everything was fine, but I needed new brakes, so I went ahead and got the back ones done ($400). As soon as I drove out of the parking lot, my check engine light came on and my car was over heating; brought back in to be looked at, and now they say my head gasket is blown; $1500 to fix, and my cat. is distorted.

Thanks a lot Nissan. Wish you would have told me this before I put new brakes on a car I cannot drive.

General Comments:

This car is too new to have all these problems.

Nissan needs to step up and fix the problem.
