2009 Nissan Altima Coupe SE 3.5 V6

Summary:

I'd rather not have purchased this car

Faults:

Front brakes needed replacing immediately after purchasing the vehicle (around 28,000 miles).

Shocks and struts will need to be replaced soon (48,000 miles).

The suspension in general isn't very good.

Interior does not hold up well, and many of the cabin parts rattle as if poorly assembled.

General Comments:

It's a good looking car.

However, the cost of ownership is high and the vehicle will not stand the test of time.

2012 Nissan Altima Coupe

Summary:

More that what you'd expect

Faults:

Nothing, as this was a vacation rental.

General Comments:

We rented this car over a vacation. I usually just request the cheapest, smallest, whatever car on these trips, and the car this time was a Nissan Altima Coupe.

The car looks pretty nice. It's a far cry from the original Altima, which was definitely a typical econo car. The Altima we rented looked, felt, and drove more like a sports car. The acceleration and torque was impressive. I felt that the controls were easy to use and read. The fit and finish was good for the car's class. Additionally, I'm not sure what the actual MPG was, but I'm guessing it must have been pushing 40+ MPG, because we only filled it up once during the whole trip.

If I had anything bad to say about it, it was that the seats, for me at least, were not comfortable. I'm a sort of small guy, and the seats made my back ache after a few hours.

Otherwise, I felt this was a surprisingly competent, fun to drive, and economical car.

2010 Nissan Altima Coupe S 2.5 liter 4 cylinder

Summary:

Amazingly enjoyable small vehicle, that gets noticed everywhere I go

Faults:

Nothing whatsoever.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car. It has been an amazing ride since the day I test drove it.

I originally wanted the 3.5, but after playing with the 4 cylinder, I found myself appreciating it more.

I average about 28 MPG with mixed driving, consisting of approximately 40% highway and 60% city, and I don't treat it gently.

I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic oil on it, after using Castrol Edge for a little while, but Mobil 1 actually improved my fuel economy.

I switched out the stock stereo for an aftermarket Pioneer unit, and did some other little modifications myself, but I find that I love this car every time I climb into it to drive.

One nice thing worth noting is the fact that, at least in my model year, despite the fact that my car did not come with fog lights, the wires are already run to the bumper, you just need to purchase the fog lights and a switch. This is certainly a welcome situation.

2009 Nissan Altima Coupe S 2.5 4 cylinder

Summary:

Just as reliable as any Honda!

Faults:

Not one single thing!

General Comments:

I bought this car new, and have loved it since day one.

I previously owned 3 Hondas' my first was a 1999 Civic EX coupe, then I had a 2002 Accord EX 4 cyl coupe, and my last car was a 2007 Accord EX V6 coupe, and all of them were wonderful cars.

I had originally went back to the local Honda dealership for a new 2009 Accord coupe, which was where I have gone for all of my Honda's in the past, but after the way they treated me, wanting me to do a credit check before even being allowed to test drive a car and then being told "We won't haggle on the sticker price, because Honda's sell themselves." I walked out and went next door to the Nissan dealer and bought my Altima coupe. I then drove my new Nissan right back to Honda and told the sales man "You just lost a sale!" and drove off, and I have not and won't be back there again!

With over 76,000 miles, this car has been just as reliable and wonderful as any of my Honda's have been. It has way more standard and optional equipment, and was better priced than the Accord. But I will say, one big plus with having a Honda was always the high resale value. It was always really good when it was time to sell, even with high miles on the car. Nissan's don't really seem to have as good of a resale value, but when compared to a lot of other brands, it's not bad at all.

My friend owns a 2008 Altima and highly recommends it to me. I test drove one, and was impressed with the smooth quiet ride as well. I haven't made up my mind yet, but considering an Altima if I can get a discount after Christmas.

Why is it that Honda dealers are so arrogant? I was looking at a Civic recently, and boy were they ever rude to me at the Honda dealership. They act like their cars are better than BMW or Benz, but they are just economy cars, prone to problems just like any other brand. I decided to not buy a Honda just because of their bad attitude, but their lack of a decent warranty behind their product was also a big factor.

If their cars are so reliable as they claim, why won't they back it with a warranty? Nissan stands by their product, which gives me more confidence.
