2000 Nissan Frontier 3.3

Summary:

Okay choice for a one vehicle family

Faults:

Transmission 1st gear and synchro broke from a hard acceleration.

Tailgate latch broke twice.

Clutch pedal rod bent.

Body dents easily, many little dings.

General Comments:

Bad fuel economy, this despite the overly lightweight components in body and chassis. Crew cab weighs in like a car. Lightweight truck boils down to flimsy.

2000 Nissan Frontier EX 2.4

Summary:

Great

Faults:

Well after 170,000 miles I finally lost an engine. The timing chain broke. My auto fix it guy said there was a lubrication failure, and being as the timing chain adjuster operates off of oil pressure, the chain went.

I'm not complaining as this has a very worry free truck for me. I'm having the engine replaced with another that has 75k on it and comes with a 12/12 p/l warranty.

For the record, I've been using Mobile 1 synthetic 10w30 in it since I got it. Driving about 30k a year.

General Comments:

Great truck overall.

2000 Nissan Frontier SE / XE 2.4

Summary:

Best little truck you could ask for

Faults:

Fuel filter, tune up with cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

General Comments:

I have owned this rig since 2002, and it has been nothing but good to me. Not a lot of low end grunt, but it got the job done. I towed my Baja Bug from Eureka California to Ventura, about 670 miles. Got 16 MPG. Otherwise between 23-26 on the freeway, doing about 65-90.

I have driven to Eureka, Washington, Las Vegas, and many other road trips, and the little guy has not failed me yet.

I love this little truck, and when you get that little 2.4L 4 cylinder into the high RPMs, it get moving. If all the Titans are built like this, I see me getting one in the not so distant future.

I am 6'2, and I fit and ride in this rig fine for many many hours.

It does alright through the twisty roads of northern Cali with a little body roll. Crank the torsion bars down and 4" lowering blocks in the back, and this is a canyon carver.

2000 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab V6

Summary:

Not at all the long lasting quality I expected from of Nissan

Faults:

My transmission failed at 63,000 miles.

General Comments:

My 2000 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4X4, is owned and driven only by middle aged lady... no abuse (mudflats, off-roading, etc.). It has been very well maintained and has never been used for towing. There is no obvious reason for the transmission to fail at 63,000 miles.

2000 Nissan Frontier SE 3.3L V6

Summary:

Underpowered, but gets the job done

Faults:

Has to replace one oxygen sensor a year for the last 3 years at about $200 each.

Fan switch only worked on high. ($65)

Intake gasket is leaking. ($500 estimate from dealer)

Window regulators need to be replaced. ($100 each)

A/C doesn't blow cold anymore.

General Comments:

This engine is seriously underpowered for it's displacement.

4WD with limited slip differential is awesome.

Lots of road and engine noise even at low speeds.

Seats are uncomfortable for more than perhaps an hour at a time and legroom is scarce.

2000 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4X4 3.3L

Summary:

Nice looking truck, but very underpowered and plagued with problems

Faults:

There is some sort of Manifold vibrating in the engine, I have taken it in to the dealer. They fix the problem and it quickly reappears.

All of the Exterior lights got mixed up. When you put your foot on the brake, the right turn signal would come on. When using cruise control and signal to change lanes, cruise control would shut off. Turn on high beam lights and all interior dash lights would dim. Tail lights would work very rarly. The Nissan dealer was able to sort this out, but took them hours anf cost a lot.

Automatic Transmission got stuck in park and had to be towed. New transmission was installed, on warranty.

General Comments:

Truck has very limited power and would not recommend a Nissan truck to anyone. Pulling a trailer, vehicle would do about 60 kilometers.

Depending on the size of the trailer, 60mph is pretty darn good... Also, many if not most states require you do 60 or under when towing as max speed limit, even on interstate hiways. This sounds like you got a bad Nissan because almost all I've seen have been excellent.
