1996 Nissan Hardbody Pickup XE Kingcab 2.4L 4 cylinder.

Summary:

Best little truck I could have bought

Faults:

Nothing ultimately wrong has happened with this truck. Normal wear and tear. O2 sensor at 80,000. Timing chain ready to go now, but will probably replace at 150,000.

General Comments:

This truck is a doll. She never gives me any grieve. Next summer plan to drop her down 3" in front and 5" in back, add some performance parts, but not to much. Has that tin can purr...hoping for a tin can growl..

1996 Nissan Hardbody Pickup XE 2.4L

Summary:

A good reliable powerhouse machine

Faults:

This car has treated me well ever since I got it.

There was never any problems with it in any way it still has plenty of power.

The interior looks like new and it is now running better then ever since I put a new exhaust system on it.

The only downfall is the extreme loudness of the truck.

General Comments:

This is a great truck and I think all truck fans should at least get behind the wheel of it.

It has met all of my standards that I was looking for in a truck and now it has became my second wife.

1996 Nissan Hardbody Pickup EX 2.4L 16v N/A

Summary:

One of the greatest values on the road!

Faults:

This truck is probably the most reliable vehicle on the road. The only problem I have had was the alternator went out. I have had a few other problems with it, but only because I have done some custom work on it.

When I changed my exhaust system and air intake setup, the O2 sensor went off, but I found one to compensate for it.

General Comments:

This truck is fairly quick. I take it to the drag strip every now and then. I can turn constant 18.1 sec. @ 75.4 mph with a full tank of gas. It has plenty of torque, so it does well when hauling.

I chose this truck because my dad had one for 16 years (1985-2001) until the clutch went out and decided to get another one. He never had any problems with it before that. Plus I have it customized. If you are looking for a good mini truck to drop and add modifications to, this is perfect. There are plenty of modifications that can be done for free or for cheap.

1996 Nissan Hardbody Pickup Base 2.4L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Utilitarian baby-tank

Faults:

The engine light comes on from time to time, got a letter from the dealer saying they're defective, but haven't gone to get it fixed. Headliner sagging and trim is wearing, but hey whadda what for 6000 brand new off the lot.

General Comments:

I love my truck, I paid 6300$ for this truck brand new in '96 and I have had no mechanical problems whatsoever. Over 100k now and still runs like new. Engine catches right off and gas mileage is about 1mpg off from the day I bought it. Same clutch, same brakes haven't replaced a single bulb or headlight. If it fell apart tomorrow I'd still have gotten a deal.

1996 Nissan Hardbody Pickup XE 2.4L

Summary:

The best reliable transportation for a person on a budget!

Faults:

The alternator and power steering belts became loose and squealed... the culprit was a loose bracket and was fixed free. I have had no problems since.

General Comments:

This truck is an excellent vehicle. Its simplicity adds to its character, and is the best basic truck you can buy. I think I made the best choice by going with Nissan. For $4400, it was the best deal I have ever got!

There is decent power, as long as you get the 5 speed manual.

Gas mileage is acceptable.

Power steering is nice and has a great, tight feeling.

1996 Nissan Hardbody Pickup SE 2.4 L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Fun 4X4

Faults:

Transmission went out 1 month after purchase (70,000 miles), dealer helped to replace, but still cost me about $800 with a new clutch (might as well put one in at the same time).

Catalytic convertor rotted, think it is happening again, which no one can explain.

Oxygen sensor died (due to stalling in a creek).

Had electrical problems after being hit by lightning, only thing that I can find to explain it is multiple wires melted together, seems fine now though.

Distributor cap needed replacing, this is what caused it to stall in the creek.

Cruise control does not work consistently, seems to work in the morning, but not later in the day, has me stumped.

Parking brake seized.

Bushing at the top of the transmission wore out, after the new transmission (or that is what the dealer called it, I have sworn off the dealer that sold it to me due to their rudeness in helping me) was only in there for 30,000 miles, difficult to replace because the seats had to be taken out and carpet pulled back just to get the cover off from around the shifter.

General Comments:

I love my truck, had some serious problems at the beginning, but I think it was slightly abused. I am an avid caver and have to put this stock truck to the test to get to some of the caves.

Could use a little more power for pulling my pop-up camper, but it is a 4 cyl, so I knew that when I bought it.

I put 55,000 miles on it in less than two years, planning on it lasting a long time to come, or at least until I pay it off.

Good cargo weight and ride height.

My only complaint right now is that the transmission is sometimes tricky to shift, does not shift smoothly.

Would be very frustrated with this truck if I could not do most of the repairs myself, dealers would have charged me an arm and a leg.

If there are any ideas on the cruise contol on the catalytic convertor, drop me an email at stowpj680@yahoo.com
