1992 Nissan Maxima

Summary:

Truly Reliable

Faults:

The fuel injectors have been replaced 3 times since I've owned the car.

Leather seats have worn out at about 100,000 miles.

General Comments:

Very good handling.

Exceptional power. This car has been a joy to drive.

Other than the fuel injectors, this car has been very reliable and relatively low maintenance. It is nearing the end of its life cycle; speedometer and odometer no longer work, but I haven't bothered fixing them. Overall, it has been a goodsend.

1992 Nissan Maxima SE 3.0L

Summary:

Quick, stylish, and reliable

Faults:

Transmission went after having it for a month, that was my fault though.

Clock never really worked.

Auto Climate control light was dim sometimes.

Blower Motor.

Wheel bearing.

ABS light was always on, but that didn't matter to me.

Daytime lights, and High-beams would switch to only one light at times whenever it wanted.

The worst thing was the door-lock alarm sensor in the driver's door. Key would often times not de-activate the factory alarm and I would have to run to the trunk or passenger door and unlock with the key to shut the alarm off.

VTC tick.

Exhaust manifold stud broke.

2 Window regulators.

Fuel Pump.

General Comments:

This car is a true performance machine. The rare VE30DE is an amazing power plant, and even hooked up to an automatic transmission, it was still super quick.

The car is a great combination of sport an luxury and I recommend it to anyone looking for just that.

Every penny I put into it was definitely worth it, and I plan on buying another one. It will not let you down.

1992 Nissan Maxima 3.0L

Summary:

Great car, huge problems right now, HELP!

Faults:

NEED HELP.

Car has horrible cold start problem. The car will start, but the engine light will be on, and the car will continually try to stall until it's warm. Once warm after being shut off for 1 minute and restarted, typically the engine light is gone and the car runs great.

Symptoms are rough idle, strong gas smell, constant stalling. If driving is attempted in this state, it will hesitate and move only at a snail's pace. Improves as it gets warmer, but does not disappear unless shut off and restarted warm. I'm baffled. A technician told us the MAF sensor and distributor had to be replaced, so we had it done, but it made no difference. I've also replaced the spark plugs and wires. Please help, thank you.

New battery and alternator plus belt battery light is still on. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

Rough idling/acceleration could be caused by bad O2 sensors as well. try changing them. Also fuel pump may be gone, check that as well.

1992 Nissan Maxima SE 3.0L DOHC

Summary:

A Vintage Performer!!!

Faults:

Muffler had to be replaced due to rusting out and falling off.

Driver's Rear Window failed to operate due to regulator mechanism getting jammed.

Bose rear speakers + amps failed.

Have experienced the slight hesitation problems intermittently, but that went away by using Premium gas and fuel injector cleaner.

The rear spoiler is loose and will need to be repaired or replaced soon.

General Comments:

This car is an absolute dream to drive! It is seriously quick and handles like a dream.

The responsiveness of the engine and the quality of the ride rival that of cars 10 years younger.

I love this car! The Nissan slogan of a 4 Door Sports Car is as advertised.

The car is also generally easy to work on (besides the VTC solenoids) and the SE model never needs a timing belt change because it has a timing chain!

Parts aren't that hard to come by if you use the internet and Autozone or Pepboys.

This is without a doubt the best version of the Maxima that Nissan ever made. I would however recommend that anyone who purchases a car of this vintage ('90-'94) should be mechanically inclined due to the maintenance that the car will require. I fully expect this car to reach 200,000 miles, this car was honestly engineered to do that.

My only complaint is that the seats aren't really that comfortable and that the gas mileage isn't that good (this car guzzles it).
