1993 Nissan Pathfinder SE

Summary:

A disgrace that Nissan should take responsibility for!!!

Faults:

Both front and rear bumpers rusted from the inside out - replaced.

Body under rear doors rusted out, repaired.

Body above both front tires rusted - not repaired.

Frame rusted out.

General Comments:

Both front and rear bumpers rusted out after 5 years. At inspection was told to replace, they were completely rusted through from inside out. Dealer rep said "that shouldn't have happened". Nissan simply stated it was out of warranty and I lived in an area of snow and ice so it wasn't their fault.

Body under both rear doors rusted and repaired.

At inspection this year told frame was rusting away and had to have plates welded. Shop said that it was common with Nissan's because of the frame design.

More than happy to join a class action suit!!!

Truck has 93,000 miles, and was taken care of. Going to loose it now because of frame.

1993 Nissan Pathfinder LX

Summary:

It has been reliable until now

Faults:

Just found out that my 1993 Pathfinder has a rusted out rear frame. I would like to know if Nissan is offering to repair these since it has happened to a lot of the Pathfinders in the 1990's. What does Nissan recommend? The car is in great condition otherwise.

General Comments:

Great car except for the rear frame rusting out.

Hi Pal. I am from Brazil and have a NA Nissan Pathfinder 1993. I saw something about a recall on Wikipedia. You should take a look about this rust problem. Regards from South America.

Luis.

1993 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4X4 3.0L

Summary:

A trouble free excellent value

Faults:

Not a single problem since purchase.

General Comments:

I am amazed with this vehicle, I've always owned fords before getting this on a whim. I had come to accept that having to fix something every 5000 to 10000 miles was part of the deal with a car over 50,000 miles. My Pathfinder however has been driven hard, with a lot of off road and towing miles. It has yet to show a single problem. It runs like new, doesn't burn any oil or other fluids. No leaks, no breaks, no fixes. Aside from routine maintenance it's never seen a shop. I have two mechanics I use, both older guys who have been doing it a long time. They live in rural areas where it's frowned upon to drive a foreign car. But being men who know, they both drive Nissan trucks. It was on there recommendation that I look for a pathfinder. I actually feel bad, if i'd gotten another ford I'd be giving them a lot more business.

Yes, my father owns a 1993 finder since 90k now with well over 200k. Minor electrical repair at first (they're prone) then nothing at all, aside from maintenance. Burns no oil, no coolant, leaks nothing. All after two teenage boys had our way with it off road. So poor on gas dad had mixture checked after purchasing it - it was fine. Bulletproof motor that likes fuel. Add short gearing... I owned a 1994 Chev 4x4 pick up with a 350 v8 that got similar mileage in town, but better mileage than the Nissan on hwy! Heavier, motor almost double in size, pushing more air, etc. But, Nissan's 3.0 liter revs 3000 at 100km/h while Chevy's 5.7 liter revs under 2000 at 100km/h. Pathfinder will outlast the Chev easily, gasoline is the penalty.

Or buy a 5-speed manual.

1993 Nissan Pathfinder SE 3.0L

Summary:

Old and reliable

Faults:

Brakes replaced every 25-30,000 miles which is normal.

A/C compressor after 105,000 miles which is pretty good.

Still has the original exhaust at 113,000 miles. Very good.

Runs like a top.

General Comments:

This truck is very reliable.

Except for normal tune ups, belts, and brakes, I've hardly replaced anything.

An American truck would be falling apart at 60,000 miles.

115,000 miles on it now. I hear they will get over 200,000 no problem.

"An American truck would be falling apart at 60,000 miles."

Plenty of reliable American trucks (on this site alone) running at least twice the mileage your Pathfinder has. It all depends on how you look after them (Japanese vehicles included).

1993 Nissan Pathfinder XE 6 cylinder

Faults:

-Warped front rotors after 12,000km. (Warranty)

-Replaced the Heater Thermostat because of the lack of heat when it got below -20C. They were sent to Canada initially with only a 180 Degree Thermostat. They now have the dealerships replace these low heat thermostats with a 195 degree if you bring it to their attention. (Warranty)

-Had the front boot seals replaced because of cracking. (Warranty)

-Battery replaced. (Warranty)

General Comments:

According to the Kelly Blue Book on vehicles, this is the "Best of its Class" for this year (1993). The vehicle is a pleasure to drive, and has never let me down. It is well constructed and the sound system is awesome for a factory package. They could have put in a few more horsey powers when they were putting it together, however, they have learnt over the past couple of years to do just that. The hp and torque have been upped, and it gives the vehicle a little more jump. I would highly recommend anyone considering an SUV, that this is one that is well worth its money if you can find someone willing to part with theirs (the 1993 Model year). My wife drives ours, and feels very safe when wheeling around in traffic. The vehicle (owned since new) has only got 75,000km on it, and still looks and smells like new. Try and find one for yourself.

It's the best vehicle ever made. I love it and if I had the money I would buy another one of the newer models.

I have passed 100k miles on my odometer and it still runs great and looks great. Whoever designed and made the vehicle had real passion for what they were doing. I am not a car fanatic but this car is very reliable.
