1986 Nissan Pulsar NX 1.6

Summary:

Economical, comfortable, reliable and affordable

Faults:

Transmission slipping, so I had it rebuilt.

Replaced muffler, alternator, starter, 1/2 axles.

General Comments:

It always starts, even in our sub-zero temps.

Has excellent traction in deep snow and ice.

Excellent visibility.

The most comfortable seats (I have purchased two more sets from the parts yard).

I can get 40 mpg on the highway, and I live between the Rockies and Cascades.

I installed a receiver hitch, and can tow a small trailer with building supplies.

It is even comfortable to sleep in.

I paid $1000 for it, and have spent $2500 since.

I would not hesitate to drive this across the country.

1986 Nissan Pulsar NX 1.6L E16

Summary:

I love it

Faults:

Rebuilt Engine at 137000 rings went bad due to previous owners over-heating it, I did all the typical things for a motor rebuild (replaced motor mounts etc).

Rack and Pinion.

Drivers Side CV Shaft.

Heater Core (just bypassed it)

Rebuilt Power Steering Pump.

Muffler rusted away.

Rebuilt carburetor.

General Comments:

In my opinion this is a great little car. I can't kill this little thing. It's been wrecked and repaired twice as well as taken on water in a flood and still started faithfully. I have been very impressed that at 175000 miles it still has the original starter, radiator has never been touched, and A/C still blows ice cold. Sure it's a tin can, but for being 17 years old can't complain.
