1993 Nissan Sentra XE 1.6

Summary:

This car is going to go at least 300,000 miles!

Faults:

At 90,000 the power steering rack started to leak so I replaced it myself (after being told the dealer would charge $700) and I had my first set of new tires installed along with an alignment.

At 143,000 I had an outer CV joint split, so I replaced it for $16.

Brake pads every 50,000 miles, still original shoes though (they show almost no wear).

General Comments:

The reliability of this thing is just astounding.

Absolutely no oil leaks/burning whatsoever.

Car still has the ORIGINAL battery!

It does not ride very comfortably, due to its short wheelbase.

Power is marginal (automatic), though at times it does have rather strong moments of power that catch me by surprise.

1993 Nissan Sentra XE 1.6L I4

Summary:

The '93 Nissan Sentra XE will get you from point A to point B, don't expect much more

Faults:

A few problems with the car have been an oil leak at around 112,000.

The boots and front pads have also needed replacing.

The starter gave up at 138,000.

Other than these, just normal wear and tear.

General Comments:

I wish it had some more power to get up hills and to show off with in front of friends. Maybe it is just because I am 16, but a little more get-up wouldn't hurt her at all.

The interior is average, but the housing on the gearbox often pops when shifting.

1993 Nissan Sentra SE-R 2.0

Summary:

There is no comparison for the money... period!

Faults:

CV boot replaced at 50,000 miles.

Alternator at 150,000.

General Comments:

The SE-R model Sentra represents about 5% of all Sentras made in 1991-1998!

This car is awesome!

The 1.6l Sentra can't get out of its own way, but the 2.0 engine hauls butt! The sr20de engine was originally designed for the Infinity G20, but Nissan decided to also put it in the newly redesigned Sentra. Weighing in at 300lb less than the G20, the Sentra is very nimble. The motor is all aluminum and puts 120HP (stock) at the wheels (140HP claim from the factory). Along with the horsepower, the torque is amazing, coming in at about 118 stock (you won't get that amount of torque from your Honda!) This engine has proven to last (and still make the same power) over 300,000 miles with normal to hard use!

1993 Nissan Sentra XE 4 cylinder

Summary:

Unreliable piece of crap!

Faults:

Power mirrors stopped the day after I bought it.

Fan stopped working.

Air conditioner stopped working.

Exhaust has been replaced 4 times.

Leaks oil everywhere, brought it in 5 times for the oil pan and gasket, finally the garage gave me my money back.

General Comments:

Never, never, never will I buy a Nissan again.

It seems like this car has something new wrong with it every month.

Rattles, clunks, dings, pings, pops, rattles, rattles, rattles...

It is an embarrassment to drive, people stare at me because of all the noise it makes.

It takes forever to heat up in the winter, the windows get fogged up and I can't clear them.

It is boiling hot in the summer inside.

The climate controls stink!

If you want to blame someone, blame the mechanics that you have working on your car. Five times for an oil pan gasket? They saw you coming from a mile away.

I own a Sentra XE and two SE-Rs. Fast, fun, and very reliable cars.

1993 Nissan Sentra XE 4 cylinder

Summary:

A trustworthy member of the family

Faults:

This is a great little car. The only problems I've had have been maintenance. At 86,000 miles, I had to replace the exhaust system from the catalytic converter to the muffler.

General Comments:

This car is reliable. The 4 cylinder engine does have trouble going up hills. I don't wash and wax it as often as I should, but the paint, and body overall, is still in excellent shape compared to other 1993 era cars on the road.
