1995 Nissan Sentra GXE 4-cylinder

Summary:

Comfortable cheap and reliable

Faults:

Had to replace front brakes

Had to replace switch that tells the computer whether car is in gear or not.

General Comments:

I'm really impressed with how nimble the car is considering its tiny 4-cylinder engine. Plus the interior is pretty comfortable and roomy for a pretty small sedan.

The only complaint I have about is its steering. It's not very solid and you have to make constant adjustments in order to go a straight line. But that's not such a big deal considering its price and its reliability.

1995 Nissan Sentra XE 1.6

Summary:

Inexpensive car, cheap to maintain

Faults:

Since I owned the car, it has stalled on me twice while driving. Apart from general maintenance, this car has given me very reliable service.

General Comments:

My point of view, this car is a very good car. Fuel economy is excellent, comfort is pretty good and it gets me around to where I want to go inexpensively.

Beware, this car loves to eat front brakes. I have had the pads and discs changed once a year since I bought it. Get aftermarket brakes to replace them, dealer service is very expensive.

The car is spacious on the inside. The front seat is set a little too low, but I don't mind; if it was set higher, my head would be touching the liner!

For winter driving, try to get snow tires installed. You're better off being safe than sorry.

Rear brakes have to be readjusted often. Try to get oil changes done regularly to avoid problems later. The rear bumper seems to fold even when it has not been hit.

The car has very good fuel economy and it rides well. Road noise at highway speed is intrusive. The car could use more power assist during parking maneuvers.

All in all, it is a good car which I intend to keep for a long time.

Just recently had to put up over $1000 to replace all the shocks and alternator. ouch that hurt my wallet.

To this day I still own this car with 136000 km on it, it is tough.

I have reached 178000 km and the car is still running decently. Much better than the Topaz I once owned.

4th Jun 2011, 18:02

Well this is it, my last weekend with the car. It has reached 194000 km, I am getting rid of it, just spent more on a radiator. It has done its time. This week I am trading it in for a newer car. Will let you know what I get.

Well it is done, I traded in the Sentra for a Suzuki SX4. Thank you Nissan Sentra for all the dependable years you have given me.

I traded in the 2008 Suzuki SX4 in April 2016 for a 2015 Subaru Forester. It is now May 2023 and I have ordered a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross and it should be in by September. I will use my Forester as a trade in. My point of view on the Forester: careful with who installs your brakes. The original exhaust system does not last long.

So I said bye bye to the Subaru Forester I owned for the last 7 years and received the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross last night. Drives very nice. More to come as time goes on.

1995 Nissan Sentra XE 1.6 DOHC

Summary:

Excellent build quality and peppy engine

Faults:

The exhaust system needed some work. The muffler was replaced.

Belts were replaced twice. Once due to noise and the second time due to wear.

Engine gasket was replaced due to slight oil leak.

Brake pads were replaced.

The starter needed replacing at 65000 km. It was covered under Nissan's 100000 km warranty.

Some premature rust on inside door sills and back fender.

Rear strut boots cracked.

General Comments:

This car is quite peppy for an economy car. The acceleration is very good around town. The engine is fairly quiet.

The fuel economy is excellent.

The automatic transmission shifts very smoothly.

The brakes are not very good. They feel spongy and are noisy sometimes.

The ride is supple and quiet, even at highway speeds. There are no rattles and very little wind noise.

The handling is a little sloppy because of the soft suspension. There is a fair amount of body lean during cornering.

The seats are flat, hard, and set too low. There is not enough thigh support, and a lack of side bolstering.

The parts costs are reasonable.

Reliability is good.
