1997 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6

Summary:

Good small car, nice for students

Faults:

It NEEDS new struts, all 4 of them.

After a full tune-up, the engine light turn on (I still need to check that).

Fabric from the ceiling is starting to tear.

General Comments:

Overall the car runs good, shifts are smooth and the engine seems to be in good condition.

It is not the best in performance or acceleration, but c'mon, is an economy car with a little 1.6 engine, some people complain that it is too slow, but mine runs good, even on the highway. 34 MPG that makes me like it even more.

However, since it was a family car, the seats front and back were very, very dirty, took me like two hour to clean most but not all (too much dry soda on fabrics. ;b). Front seats are comfortable (way better than my sisters Stratus ;O). Oh and it also needs new sun visors (the one from the passenger is missing).

I've had the car for a month now, I knew the problem from the struts when I bought it, that problem would cost me about $300 including installation, plus $50 from the sun visors. But spending that money does not bother me, the car runs great and I got it for only $1200 ;D.

1997 Nissan Sentra XE 4 cylinder.

Summary:

Wonderful

Faults:

Nothing major has ever gone wrong!!!

General Comments:

I love my car, and wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING!!!

It may not be the most beautiful thing to look at, but it gets me from point A to point B and beyond!!!

I have had it for almost 5 years and the only big things I've had to replace is the idle pulley, and front end. Which is a lot more than I can say for my other vehicle {Pontiac Montana}

The engine and transmission is in Terrific shape even with 202,000 miles and counting on it!!

I would recommend one to anybody!!!

1997 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.4L - 4-cylinder

Summary:

Nice, reliable, fuel efficient car

Faults:

Not Much.

The only major work I have had to do on this car is replace the Oxygen sensor on the exhaust.

The Temp. coolant sensor went out at 150,000 or so, but that's not that strange, considering the higher mileage at the time.

Driver's side power window motor went out around 120,000 miles, but I just got another one from the junkyard and installed it myself.

General Comments:

This car is RELIABLE!

I have done hardly anything to this Nissan since I got it 6 years ago. It is 10 years old, and still gets 30-35 miles to the gallon!

Plenty of trunk room.

Fuel efficient.

Always starts, never gives me any problems.

Easy to work on and do regular maintenance.

Parts are cheap if you need them.

Pretty comfortable - not a luxury car, but it does the job.

Power windows and locks all still work.

Paint job is sound, no peeling or chipping.

Has Keyless entry option as a handy feature.

1997 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6L

Summary:

Great, economical vehicle

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this vehicle. I've only owned it for two weeks.

General Comments:

This is a very economical vehicle with plenty of room and power and is surprisingly quiet.

I am 6'2" and was very surprised that I did not have to recline the seat back when I sat down in it. I am able to sit upright, just like when I am in my Explorer.

If you want a vehicle with a bunch of power, this is not it. This vehicle does, however, have plenty of power to get up to speed in a respectable amount of time and at the same time delivering 33+ mpg in mixed city/highway driving. Which is more than I can say for my 15 mpg (if I'm lucky) Ford Explorer.

I was also impressed with the price I paid. I purchased it from a dealer with 107000 miles, fully loaded for $2200. Not a bad deal (retails for $5165/KBB). Being a full time nursing student, I needed something to get me to school, work, and clinical rotations without having to take out a loan to pay for gasoline and insurance. I think I chose right.

KBB values are so inflated for the '97 GXE that they are absolutely ridiculous. I wish I could get 25% of the KBB for my car.
