2001 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8

Summary:

Lemon, lemon, lemon

Faults:

Everything you can imagine has gone wrong with this Nissan car.

I bought a 2000 Toyota brand new and had only 1 recall for a minor issue "headlight bracket". The Nissan has had 7 recalls to date, most of which can result in the vehicle crashing.

This is by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned.

Customer service is awful; they give you the run around, never return calls as promised. I've sunk a lot of money in this lemon, but I chalk it up as a lesson learned. I will never purchase another Nissan, nor will I ever recommend Nissan to anyone else.

With the number of complaints out there on this vehicle, I can't believe the safety board has not forced Nissan to recall this whole model year. I drive my 94 Mazda to work every day, because I drive 120 miles per day at speeds of 75 MPH, and I don't trust my Nissan for that situation.

Advice to other consumers: don't think every foreign car is better than American. Research every car model in the range you are looking at for negative feedback from real consumers.

2001 Nissan Sentra XE 1.8

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

Absolutely NOTHING at all!!!

General Comments:

Since my purchase in April 2004, I have been absolutely amazed at my Sentra XE. Not a single problem. Bought it used at a Carmax store and all the recalls were already taken care of. I do not let Carmax service my car, but I have my own mechanic.

So far I have been COMPLETELY satisfied with my Nissan Sentra XE!! Handling is great, acceleration is awesome with a K&N air filter, gas mileage is around 35 mpg.

The best money I ever spent next to my Rolex GMT-11.

2001 Nissan Sentra XE

Faults:

I haven't had the same litany of problems that some other Nissan Sentra owners have had, but I've had it in to replace/repair the horn on four occasions so far. The first three times the repair lasted for a few months and then just seemed to cease. I'm now ready to take it in for the fourth time, as I needed to use the horn a couple of weeks ago only to find that it once again is non-functional.

My other vehicle is a Toyota. My Nissan will be replaced with a Toyota in the near future - I don't get any grief from my older Toyota, and it has almost three times the mileage as the Sentra.

2001 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8L

Summary:

It's OK

Faults:

My service engine soon light came on right after I got the car. Took it back to the dealer, they said the gas cap wasn't on tight enough. It went off later. My CD player gives me an err message and it has never worked. I've had to replace my tires so many times due to nails. My brake calipers had to be fixed. The light on my radio display has a mind of its own. My MAF (Massive Air Flow) sensor had to be cleaned recently (100,000 miles) the car was barely running and giving me 2 codes (P0171 and P0174)

General Comments:

It gets pretty good gas mileage.

It has been the most reliable car I've had.

I never had problems until I hit 100,000 miles.

The stock stereo system sucks.

Lots of leg room.

2001 Nissan Sentra XE 1.8

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

This sentra has good pick up and it purrs. The transmission is perfect, the engine is clean, the air conditioning works, it runs smoothly, and there have been no recalls. The suspension is smooth.

3 years ago we owned a 1987 Nissan Sentra. It was okay, but my 2001 Nissan Sentra is terrific; it stops if any danger appears. We will buy another Sentra again.
