1988 Nissan Stanza Wagon 1.8 Lt

Summary:

I wish it was not so old, because I would be looking for another one!!!

Faults:

Timing belt broke.

Everything else was in the area of general maintenance and preventive maintenance.

General Comments:

I have never had a car I was happier with. I saw a woman ahead of me (on a narrow, mountain road) driving the wagon. When she reached OUR destination and I got an even better look at the car, I really like it. I have a bad back, and asked her if I could sit in it for a minute and see if it was a car I could consider buying. This was Summer 1999.

In January 2002, my husband saw my car for sale on the side of the road. He got the VIN number and looked the car up to check on accidents, etc. Then he practically dragged me to go and see the car. I liked it, so we bought it for $1600. Later that night, I found out from what he printed off the computer THAT IT WAS THE VERY SAME CAR I HAD SAT IN A FEW YEARS EARLIER. I believe "it had my name on it".

We later lucked into a 1987 "parts car", from which we scavenged some costly cosmetic things. Other than that, we have only purchased new and rebuilt parts, and the overall maintenance for miles driven has made it a very economical car. AND it is still the only of our vehicles (and other ones that I have "tried on") that is comfortable for my back - it is almost therapeutic.

1988 Nissan Stanza Not known Not known

Summary:

I absolutely love this car and plan to drive her right until the bitter end.

Faults:

The muffler had to be replaced when The Nissan was 17 years old - It still had the original muffler.

At 19 years of age, "Betsy" has just started to need the oil topped up occasionally between oil changes.

The back wheel wells and along the bottom of the sides is now starting to rust badly.

The stitching along the seams on the inside roof started to give and needed restitching and reinforcement.

General Comments:

This car is absolutely dependable. At 19 years of age, it starts like a top and accelerates just like a young one.

The seats are comfortable and I just love the little trap door in the back seat to the trunk. It allows me to carry longer than usual objects easily

(like pole lamps, shrubs, etc) and it has a nice roomy trunk.

Mine has a CA20S engine. A little bit slow in accelerating, but when you reach 4th to 5th gear, all hell breaks loose.

I love this car. Comfortable and luxurious interior, who cares about the outdated exterior. Fuel consumption is decent. It's a little hard in finding spare parts, since it's now a 23 year old car.

Long live the Stanzas!

1988 Nissan Stanza 2.0 CA20D

Summary:

Dual sliding doors, compact size. Hey Nissan, bring it back!

Faults:

Brake pads and rotors replaced at 82,000.

Alternator replaced at 84,500 miles.

Air conditioner not working at 63,000.

Engine and transmission mounts need replacing at 70,000 (old age reason)

Gas cap/sliding door safety cable bar bent and non functional at 75,000.

General Comments:

The Stanza Wagon's practical design is far more useful than any "cross over" mini wagon made today.

I do not need to fold forward the back seat in order to load a full size baby stroller, play pin, two full size suit cases, and still have room for a couple bags of groceries.

It's amazing, Nissan should bring back such a concept (and keep the sliding doors, they are so convenient).

I too have a Nissan Stanza Wagon. It's a 1988 and has had one previous owner. People make fun of the way it looks and call it a granny car, but I love my car!!! It is such a FUNctional car. I have been able to carry a large futon, and another time a three seater bench with matching two seater bench and a chair. Personally like to see Nissan produce another car like this one, only with more safety features!

I'm still driving my 88 Stanza wagon. 191000 miles to date. I bought it new and I have yet to find a car that can match the functionality and space. I have been checking out new cars for the past 3 years and not one can match this. I would keep it but parts are hard to find.
