1976 Oldsmobile 98 regency sedan rocket 455

Summary:

An affordable American classic

Faults:

The transmission failed soon after I bought it and a idiot friend ignored a warning light, leading to a cracked cylinder head a few months later.

General Comments:

This was a very capable automobile for road trips.

That Oldsmobile handled every situation with aplomb.

It was the ideal ride for a trip to the drive-in.

1976 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Coupe 455 Rocket 7.5 Liter

Summary:

Makes you feel like a king or better!

Faults:

Restored Car in 1990 and replaced all wear type parts. Overall the drive-line was in excellent condition and only required a cleanup.

General Comments:

I love my 76 Ninety Eights... I have 3 of them. They drive well and are extremely reliable. The 455 Rocket Oldsmobile engine moves the 4800 lbs effortlessly. At 232.2 inches in length there are few cars that can rival the size of the 71-76 GM full-size line. They are also extremely durable since they sit on a full boxed frame. It's a long hard road, but in an Olds 98 its smooth, smooth, smooth!

Steven.

The 1976 Oldsmobile 98 was one of the last true full size 98's in my opinion. In the 70's my family owned a 1970 Olds 98 LS sedan. That car was awesome, it had every imaginative option for an automobile from that time era. I remember my father wanting to purchase the 1976 Olds 98 because the style was going to change in '77. Currently, I would love to get my hands on a 1970, but also think the 1976 98 is a great looking car! It's streamline, and has a lot of style like the 1970 did! Just wanted to let you know you're lucky you have 3 of them!

I have to concur with your opinions on the '76 Olds 98. This car really moves. That 455 propels it up a hill with little to no effort.

I truly do have grandma's car. This coupe looks virtually showroom. The power seats, radio, all electrical, you name it... everything works great on this car. Besides some cosmetic wear on the inner door panel armrests, this car is barely broken in with 70,000 miles. I have begun to drive this car every day because it's so smooth. My olds gets generally the same gas mileage as my 2000 Toyota 4-runner.

I believe those were good days for GM.

I may have to part with it eventually because it's competing for driveway space. After all, its got a long tail.

I had a 76 coupe regency brougham, for 4 yrs. of college. It was the best car ever invented for a road trip. Just hearing the words nine-eight bring back many great memories. Olds ninety-eight cruises at a hundred and eight, was my answer to anyone who asked, "what is that thing?" I think the drivers seat was the most comfortable seat I've ever sat in. Anyway, enjoy that ride, I;m very jealous!

Super Car. My late father owned one, and I got to take it on my own to my high school senior prom. His was the coupe, fire engine red with a plush 1/2 vinyl roof, white of course. The interior was white leather, with the plush "pillow" style seats. I was so mad when this car finally died, and he sold it for junk. Oh well. Some great memories, though. What a tank. I loved it.

1976 Oldsmobile 98 Regency 455

Summary:

The best car I ever owned!!

Faults:

The transmission was rebuilt shortly before I purchased it (from a friend).

The removable fender skirts rotted out, and so did the GM replacements that I bought when I repainted the car.

The dashboard cracked, but so did every other 1976 AND 1975 model I ever saw.

The radio with 8 track player needed to be replaced.

The doors sagged on my 2 door model, and the frameless windows didn't seal properly, the drivers window whistled at high speeds.

General Comments:

This car was the BEST car I ever owned, I should have garaged it forever.

It gave the smoothest ride of any car, period.

Plenty of power, it cruised at 80 MPH & you couldn't tell the speed.

Very quiet engine.

The trunk was massive, about 8 times the size of cars made today.
