1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL 3.4 V6

Summary:

It's a great car!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General Comments:

This car runs very well. I have never had one problem with this car, and the owner befor me only had to replace the heater.

I am very pleased with the performance.

I would buy another one of these any time, I don't get all of the bad comments.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero

Summary:

The Money Pit

Faults:

Had to replace both wheel bearings in front after having the car for about 5 months and cost was $250.00 each.

Had to replace broken window regulator on driver's side after about 6 months and cost was $200.00.

Something odd is going on right now. My traction will turn off on it's own without pushing the button after I've driven a long distance. No one really knows what's wrong with it cause after it sits for a while it's fine again. It's a big mystery.

General Comments:

I loved the car when I first got it. It handles very well. But I've only had it for 8 months and I've had problems already. I thought it was a good deal when I bought it, but I've put in so much extra money already.

I'm not very happy at all. I should have just paid a little more for something that wasn't a money pit. I plan on trying to sell it this summer if anyone is interested? :)

1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL 3.4L

Summary:

Good car

Faults:

The ABS light comes on all the time. There is a short in the wheel censor on the front drivers side. It is fixed. Works great for 2 weeks then the ABS light is back on.

General Comments:

The car is a very nice looking car. It rides very nice. The ABS light is a bit concerning, but other than that I would buy another gm product.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4L

Summary:

Great car, I'd buy it again if they still made 'em

Faults:

Water leaking into interior -- fixed at no cost.

Front wheel bearings needed replaced -- probably due to large number of potholes hit last winter.

New tires.

General Comments:

Overall, I love the car, and will probably keep it a long while.

Except for the water leaking into the car, there have been no defects or problems.

I enjoy driving the car, it is comfortable and fun to drive. It has more than adequate power and a lot of nice features that could only be found on more expensive cars. Not to mention that it looks really good too.

The original tires with the car -- GY Eagle LS slip in wet and snowy/icy conditions. I had them replaced with excellent GY Assurance tires.

I wish there was an option to turn off the headlights when parked -- this is my major annoyance with the car. You can turn the car off, put on the parking brake, and start it up again, but that is a bit much just to turn off the headlights.

Reading this board, it sounds like some people got some lemons, I feel fortunate that my car seems to have been built solid and with no problems so far. In fact, it still drives and rides like it did the day I bought it.

I have a 1999 Alero and when I am parked and put the shifter into park the lights go out automatically.

To shut off the headlights after you turn off the engine: Using the manual light control on the signal control, turn the lights on and then off and the headlights will go off. That works also on other GM cars with automatic lights (I think it is called twilight sentinel).
