2000 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cylinder

Summary:

This car is really crappy and cheaply made

Faults:

My dash board is ripping and coming up completely.

My back passenger window is broken and squeaks when you try to roll it up.

My seats are extremely worn in the back.

I bought this car in May for 4,000, thinking it was a pretty good deal.

I came to find out 4 months later that my fuel system is going out, my car constantly overheats, even after I've replaced everything I was told to, and my transmission is now slipping and starting to go out. I would not recommend anyone to buy this car at all!!

I hate to break it to you, but you are driving a 10 year old vehicle with 136000 miles on it! That is the risk you take when you buy a used vehicle. Instead of calling the car cheaply made, maybe you should consider how the previous owner took care of this car. I'm willing to bet the previous owner also knew of everything going wrong with this vehicle, and that's why he sold it. You know, not everything is the manufacturer's fault!

2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Summary:

Good with major engine problems

Faults:

The car has some very serious issues. The head gasket on it is known to fail prematurely. If you are buying this car, check for head gasket problems at a reputable shop.

Other than that, did not really experience any major problems aside from the engine.

Overall, I didn't like the car. The A/C was ice cold, unlike the Chrysler ones that tend to be softer.

General Comments:

Check the Engine... Engine... Engine.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero 6 cylinder

Summary:

What a lemon!

Faults:

Pulled the car off the lot within one week, the low tire pressure wouldn't go off. Has stayed on and off since.

Replaced fuel pump, both windows, motors and regulators.

Clips now broke so windows won't roll up and down.

Sunglasses holder pulled down.

Dome light fell one day.

Trunk leaks, oxygen sensor, timing gear, alternator, water pump, changed brakes at least 6 or seven times.

Busted radiator hose, had to put new blower motor on and now only works on low.

Blinkers work when they want to, which is rarely, but if I mess with the hazard button and hold it to one side, I can get it to work.

Air conditioner replaced.

Blown head gasket.

Cruise doesn't work.

Speakers in the back quit working.

CD player quit.

Passenger seat won't lock back in place.

And oh the latest, the car is done. THE KAY FRAME IS RUSTED OUT!!!

General Comments:

Comments on the car, I don't really need to say anything else. I wrote it all. How disappointing for buying a new car.

"What a lemon!"

- The Alero is the main reason for Olds going out of business.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Summary:

I love my car, but find the upkeep very expensive

Faults:

My Alero has similar problems to others on this site.

Replacement of motor in the driver's window, and still the window has issues 2 years later.

Power steering is shot, and has leaks and is very noisy.

Brakes need replacing every year, and I don't drive very often.

The motor on the moonroof broke.

Axle on passengers side had to be replaced.

Cruise control has not worked for several years.

Signal box had to be replaced.

General Comments:

On the other hand, the Alero is a very fast and elegant vehicle that can keep up to the best of them.

The seats are comfy, and the stereo system is good.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Summary:

Unfortunately, it is not a good opinion

Faults:

Right now my Alero is again in the garage for fuel injector and ABS brake problems. I have also recently had bearings done, one strut, and a few months ago both front and rear brakes.

I have been most disappointed in this car. It has cost over $4,000 in 6 months time, with such low mileage... And I am always having to drop it off at a garage, and get a ride back - trying to find a day when I don't need a car is a bit hard.

Anyway, I will probably look for a new car in the next few months. Take my losses, after reading the other comments here.

General Comments:

It has good pick up and gets good mileage.
