2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4

Summary:

Great daily driver

Faults:

Shortly after we bought our 2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS coupe it had the conman problem almost all 3.4's had. The lower intake manifold gasket. I was expecting that one, so no surprise. We've had too do the brakes once. Front right hub assembly had too be replaced because of a bad wheel bearing. All that happened with in a year of buying the car. No problems for a couple years after that. A couple of months ago the fuel pump went out, but with almost 80,000 at the time, not a major issue. Only thing I'm not happy with right now is poor gas mileage. Seams like MPG's have went way down sense new fuel pump was installed.

General Comments:

I do like this car. Quite quick for a V6 front wheel drive car. Handles very nicely. Surprisingly comfortable on long road trips. Not what you'd expect with a smaller car like a 2 door Alero. I've replaced the factory stereo system with high quality CD deck, top line speakers, amps, sub,...ect. The Alero is a perfect car for building high end stereo system. We replaced the factory rear spoiler with a Razzi unit. The car is very sporty looking.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GL2 3.4L V6

Summary:

Fantastic, sorry to hear others haven't enjoyed it as much as we have...

Faults:

Replaced the brakes all around upon purchasing, as well as struts/shocks -- out of need, not faliure. Brakes were replaced with aftermarket, not GM...

Battery died Sept. '07, but hey, it was the original battery!

Spark plugs/wires, fuel filter, and O2 sensors replaced at 100,000mi.

General Comments:

This car has been fantastic, getting us where we needed to go quickly and comfortably.

The car is comfortable, even on long trips. The lumbar support works great, and the seat has just the right number of positions to find that "perfect" driving position.

It handles like a dream in the twisties, the V6 engine loves to rev and yet still gives great fuel economy. I get 18-21mpg around town, and still get 27-30mpg on the freeway. My freeway best is 31.6, but that was at the lower elevations of California, not up in the mountains of Utah.

We have the "sun and sound" package that adds an 8-speaker stereo and a power sunroof. We love both, it just adds to the fun.

Our car has worn well for the 25,000mi that we have put on it. We expect to get to 200,000mi or more!

2000 Oldsmobile Alero 2.4 TWIN CAM

Summary:

OK

Faults:

I loved the car when I bought it I still do, I have had some problems with it like most people that own these do, but nothing real major so far knock on wood. I have had my car for 7 years and bought it brand new with 2 miles on it. The first thing to give me a problem was the theft lock on the ignition, it would not let me start the car, the dealer said the igntion sensor was bad and was replaced after it cost me $800.00 I haven't had a problem since. The second problem was the turn signals that had a mind of their own, after I replaced the hazard switch I haven't had a problem. I have had brakes put one twice, but no rotors as of yet. Now I have a noise in the front wheel base and am not sure what it is I am hoping it is nothing serious. Other than those few issues I have been happy with my car. I hope it lasts me a few more years!
